I voted not for who I "think" will but rather who I hope will Newt.

But in all honesty I've come to the conclusion it doesn't really matter who gets the nomination from either party or who wins in the end. They are all controlled by the same special interest group so whoever goes into office will merely be doing what they are told to do by the real bosses. It's all a sham in the end and really matters not one whit.

I agree with you about who I would like vs. who will get the nomination...but I disagree about a bit about it not making a difference who is elected.

Contrast Jimmy Carter's and Ronald Reagan's presidency...one right after the other.  One was a flop and the other superlative.  Special interest groups will only take over if the President allows it to happen.  Now...do you REALLY think it doesn't matter who gets into office or are you just frustrated with the primary process?

Just my two cents.  ...Chris

I think that Fred Thompson will win the nomination. That's not who I would really like to see thou. My first choice would be Tancredo.  I've done some checking up on his record and views, and looks pretty good. But I don't think he'll get the exposure that would bring him to the for front of the race.

The question was, who do I think will be...........I think it will be Fred Thompson, but I wish it were Ron Paul.
Like Graybeard, I don't think it will make a hill of beans after it's over. We will either get  GW's friend Hillary, or another Big Government man like Fred Thompson. The people in the good old USA will lose either way!

I'm with you in this one.
I vote conservative.  and I don't see any of the front runners that I like so I'm going to vote for Ron Paul (if he's still around)

I like Fred the best of them all but it appears his run is not viable at this point. SO my second choice is Mitt.

Was it Romney who said he is a pheasant hunter, when asked by a reporter what gun he uses he said a 12 caliber shotgun? Romney signed the "Assault Rifle Ban" and supported the Brady Bill.

I think your right on that. He definitely did have a gaff on the hunting question. However, to me, its meaningless. The only thing that means anything is your stand on the 2nd amendment and hunting rights in general. Mitt is strong in both these areas. Just look at Clinton on this issue to compare. He was a hunter and owned guns but was terrible on the 2nd amendment and hunting rights.

Cabin4,  My concern about Romney is the same concern I have for many elected officials, too many politicians and not enough statesmen. Saying what they think their current audience wants to hear. Romney has a history of voting for and agreeing with gun control laws. He does not have a pro-gun history. He has a history of favoring gun control laws.

My vote goes to Mitt. I think he has the honesty and integrity that the White House has lacked during Clinton's and George W's administrations.

I answered the question as to I THINK WILL BE THE CANDIDATE.   Fred has dropped out of the race, Tancredo, is out, Guliani will not gain enough states for US wide area representation for electability and is not viable, Huckabee is out of money and the race will be expensive to get recognition much like Thompson, Romney is too liberal for the core conservatives, Paul doesn't have enough conservative support on a national level, so McCain with his independent votes and military votes will swing the nomination with a strong VP.  This is not my first choice but my evaluation of the trend.

Its such a confusing mess this year that I'm trying to get more informed and want to attend our local Republican caucus. Here in Alaska we have a history of very close votes, our current local legislator was decided on a coin toss after 2 or 3 recounts tied.  We have elected governors on as few as 50 vote difference I believe.  So I won't take GB's route, I beleive we can make a difference and I want to try.  But I was hoping for more discussion on who to trust.  Ron Paul is advertising in Alaska, Huckabee's wife is here campaigning now.  Our congressman supports Huckabee, one senator is supporting Romney.  There's a lot to admire about McCain but I think NRA isn't too happy with some of his past activities.

So I better do more research. I want to almost any Republican vs the likely Democratic candidates.

Huckabee has most of my attention for now, but can he beat the likely Democratic contenders?

I'll check back and hope more wisdom is posted.

thanks

The way it is starting to look ,the Liberals will win the next election ,no matter what party it is.
There is only one party in 08 ,and look at Obama ! this man would not even recite the Pledge of Allegiance , The Constitution i am sure means just as little to him.

Obama is left wing limosine liberal who thinks all us gun owners are just a bitter bunch of typical white people who take out our bitterness on illegal aliens. I wounder what he calls black people who own guns, believe in the 2nd amendment and what our immigration laws enforced?

I wounder what typical white people are suppose to call a black guy that goes to a white racist, anti Semitic church for 20 years then runs for president with a "bring us together" mantra? Of course he claims he never listened in the church.....

This guy scares the you know what out of me.

What an idiot.

If you don't want gungrabbing Obama in the Whitehouse you better chill on the 3rd party vote.

That will only help Obama get in....then YOU will be to blame for him being the next Prez.

Right now it looks like the GOP is down for the count as the Democrats got Obama in office and a supermajority in Congress. They are "remaking America" as their lapdog media describes it, the USA is now a socialist country and Obama's approval ratings are above 60%.

So far the congressional Democrats from rural areas are avoiding the gun issue, they remember what the AWB did for the 1994 congressional elections. However many Democratic party leaders like Pelosi are saying that it's just a matter of timing.
