HELP...12gauge Westernfield M550A with C-Clect-Choke
« on: January 19, 2004, 10:08:21 AM »
I am looking for information on this shotgun.  My dad got this for his 16th birthday(1966).  It has from what I can tell a mossberg type action.  He has hunted/killed more animals than I can imagine with this gun.  It is the first shotgun I ever shot and I have been hunting with it for many years as well.
We don't have any problems with it(never have) I just want some info.  Maybe see if I can get a new/different barrel for it....

Is Westernfield a "mavrick" of the day?

Thanks in advance for anyone with info on this gun

Ghostz
I remember when I was a kid way back in the 60s my father had a Westernfield pump also.  If my memory serves me Westernfield was a brand name used by the old Montgomery Wards mail order shop.  I'm not sure who made them for Wards but they were not bad guns at the time.  The one my father had  had a polychoke and a seven shot magazine.
Hope this helps

Yes Ghostz, it's a Mossberg. Here's a useful link describing who made what house brand.

Thanks guys...That ref chart was exactly what I needed.  I guess it is a Mossberg 500A  I guess now I just need to figure out what that is.  I know what a 500 is but not the A.  Wonder if it will take 500 barrels.

Just for the record this site has helped me soooo much.  First it helped with my first contender purchase, many hours of enjoyable reading, great stories and information.....Thanks to the whole Greybeard community!
