Texas state troopers doing the job the feds won’t do
Dave Gibson, drug cartel Examiner January 9, 2012 - Like this? Subscribe to get instant update The Texas Department of Pubilc Safety just announced that in March, they will begin patrolling the Rio Grande River with six 34-foot-long patrol boats at a cost of $3.5 million.
Each boat will be armed with six machine guns and named for a DPS trooper killed in the line of duty. The specialized vessels will be able to operate in as little as 12-inches of water.
Citing the lack of security being provided by the federal government, the state agency said they can no longer sit by and allow their citizens to be threatened by violent cartel smugglers.
Texas Highway Patrol Major Robert Bailey stated: “Transnational criminal organizations exploit our border and our citizens nearly daily by crossing the river to smuggle guns, humans, money, weapons, ammo. And we’re just there as another tool to help deter them crossing at will.”
This is not the first time the state of Texas has had to pick up where the feds have dropped the ball on border security.
