Robbery, Cops not called.
« on: January 02, 2012, 09:03:35 AM »
One of the small gun shops here in town got robbed last week. The shop is in an old Log Cabin.   Frequently when you go in the only one present is the owners daughter.  She is a small woman, in her early 20s, but she looks about 14.  A guy came in and browsed around the shop.  This is a small shop with only a few pistols.  The pistols hang on the wall beside the desk where transactions take place.  This guy slipped some pistols under his coat and walked out.  The owner who was in the back, gave chase and caught the thief just outside the front door.  The front door is really hard to get out of, there is a piece of carpet hung on the bottom an the outside that causes the door to be hard to open.  If shoved too fast the carpet gets caught under the door so you have to pull the door closed to get the carpet out from under the door.  The owner slammed the thief against the front of the building, then kept slamming him against the logs till the thief was unable to stand.  The owner collected the guns, took them back inside, gave them to his daughter to replace on the wall.

Then the owner went back outside, stood the thief up against the wall and had a long talk with him.  Everytime the guy started getting beligerant the owner slammed him against the wall some more.  After talking with him for a while he figured out who he was, and who he hangs out with.  (Binefit of living in a small town).  The owner gave the thief some words of wisdom, and orders never to come back into the store again period.  The owner said some other things but they don't need to be repeated.  The owner shoved the guy out into the street, then went back inside.  He never bothered to call the police, says it's bad for business having the cops hanging around.  Plus he feels what he did will go a lot farther with the crackheads and dopers.

Yea even we have a few of those.  Every so often we hear about a body being found out in the snow.  Alcohol always gets the blame.   The street people say, "No that person was doing crack".  Winter takes care of a lot of our problems.  Keeps the environment cleaner.

Best way to deal with that kind of situation as long as the owner is a grizzly bear and the punk is a little punk.

That's exactly what I mean about people getting fed up and taking care of things on their own!

It's OK, but I've always preferred the old drive them deep into the wilderness, then tell them to get out of the car routine.

The situation with the perp is a dilemma, in that there is no guarantee that he won't try some kind of revenge and especially some kind of retaliation against the little gal.  The best outcome for scum like that is a bullet in the brain, or something equally as final.

Natural selection has always been more efficient than anything man could invent and will win out in the end.  Reminds me of the miscreants who insist on operating, on roadways, alternative types of motor vehicles which are specifically designated as unlawful to operate on roadways.  Harsh as it may sound, I simply see it as natural selection at work when boneheads like that, who openly flaunt their defiance of the law, crash and are eliminated from the ranks of the legitimate users of oxygen before they can harm somebody else.

Magooch:  Taking revenge against that little girl would probably be the worst thing he could do.  I know that little girl, have known her most of her life.  She teaches Self Defense classes to women, and I've seen her in action.  She packs a 9mm and has three knives stashed about her body.  She was a couple of classes below my son in high school.  Word amoungst the school kids, "She is a very nice person, but don't mess with her she will hurt you".  One of my son's friends that was in her class told me about a couple of Jocks that tried to get pushy with her on dates.  She drew blood on both of them.

Since her Dad knows the bum now, he better make himself scarce around that part of town.

Sadly, involving the police generally makes things worse! You are better off to keep them out of your business, if possible.

Great story, great ending….but sadly all stories of this nature do not end well.

Back in the mid-sixties a friend and I went to New Mexico deer hunting, at the last minute my truck broke down so we ended up driving his station wagon.  After the hunt we were headed home when we were hit by a major snow storm just West of Ft. Sumner, we continued on our way since the snow was supposed to end around the Texas border.  A few miles East of Ft. Sumner we saw a young man and girl hitchhiking, normally we would not have picked them up since there were so many dope smoking hippies (love children) on the road, but my buddy gave in and stopped, they loaded in the back seat and away we went.  A few miles down the road as we neared to spot in the road named Melrose they said they wanted out and were going north to San Rosa, Jim pulled over , they gathered their gear and got out.  About a mile down the road my friend ask me to check and see if his camera was still on the back seat, I looked but could not find it so he stopped and we both looked to no avail. He turned the car around and drove back to where we had dropped the couple off, as we drove up I seen the guy throw something in a snow bank along a fence row.  I got out of the car and walked over while my friend got out with his .44 mag and confronted them.  I saw the strap to the camera case, picked it up and gave it to my friend, immediately the girl started crying and said “I told him not to take it.”.  He told the couple to get back in the car, they loaded up, my friend then drove a mile or so to where a county road exited to the south, he turned and drove about two-three miles, told the guy to take off his shoes and get out, he said I will leave your shoes at the highway intersection.  We turned around and headed back to the highway, he stopped and dropped the guys shoes, we then headed toward Clovis.  The girl was in a panic, she didn’t know what was about to happen to her.  Jim drove to Clovis, stopped and asked for directions to the bus station, took the girl in and bought her a ticket to some place in Colorado.  We headed for home and didn’t think that much more about the incident until one day a Sheriff’s deputy came to my friend’s place of work and assested him.  Jim was sent back to Ft. Sumner, NM and charged with reckless endangerment.  He ask the DA about filing charges against the guy for stealing the camera, the DA said he would look into it.  When things were finally hashed out my friend got off with probation but it cost him almost $6000. in court cost and lawyer fees, as well as the loss of pay for being absent from his job for three weeks.

While talking to the DA I was informed that had we brought them back to the sheriff in Ft Sumner .they would have been locked up and charged with theft (since the camera was worth over $500. it would have been a felony.) The DA said he really didn’t want to prosecute the case but there was some political influence from the boy’s family who were big business people in NM..

It’s good to see the gun dealer got his justice, but justice is not always as fair and swift as it may look in the beginning.

Picking up hitchhikers is an extremely risky business.  I did it a couple of times and nothing bad came of it, but on reflection, I decided I would never do it again.

always call the police.  often times, the first person to do so stays out of jail.   i learned this lesson the hard way years ago and almost was convicted of a felony as a result.  i caught two punks breaking into my apartment years ago.  i took care of business.   figured that was enough.  WRONG.   of to jail i went.   rockabilly's story is pretty much the same story....all of it would have been avoided if his buddy would have gotten the law involved.
it is best to put bravado aside, and report stuff.  unfortunately, these days handing things yourself is a great way to end up in prison.
