Sometimes it has to do with the store your buying it in. Here in Ohio, a couple years back, I went into a Speedway gas station, and went to buy a 6 pk. of beer. I was over 50 at the time. Not only did the clerk want to see my drivers license, she wanted to scan it. I said no, and left the beer on the counter. Down the road, at a regular convience store, they didn't even want to see my ID.  Same thing happened to me in Pa. not to long ago. I think it's more of what the manager/store policy is. gypsyman

Along the same line, I don't give a clerk my zip code at a store when I check out either. I don't need any more flyers showing up in my mailbox, just because I bought an item at Office Max,Home Depot or anywhere else. gypsyman

This law was repealed quite some time ago in Indiana.  It is no longer necessary to show ID regardless of age.  Ya might want to start shopping someplace that understands this.  Of course if you are a youngun you just as well expect it.  Enough of us old farts complained loud enough to get the law changed.

Like Gypsyman said, nobody is going to scan my DL and I don't give out unnecessary info.  That's why I pay in cash.   ;)

You have to have ID to buy cigarettes but it is too much to ask for an ID to vote.

I'm 50ish. One chain of liquor stores wouldn't sell me a bottle of wine without an ID. I left without buying the wine. I don't think they do that anymore. Nobodey else did it. It was a stupid idea.

But the stupider idea is that you have to go to a liquor store to buy beer and wine in this state. In other states those are grocery store items. Consequently miinnesota has more liquor stores than you can shake a stick at. If it weren't for that one law, almost all of them would go out of business.

As for zip codes at checkouts, I have been know to give obnoxious cashiers an 11 digit zip code and insist that the postal service now uses that many digits. Their entry system doesn't accept zip codes that long. Mostly I just say "I decline".

What it is, is the use of common sense is not allowed anymore. Stupidity is ok though. Around a year ago when I was 53. I was buying some snuff at a Walmart. The lady at register said "are you older than 18"? I said C-mon-man. She said I have to ask. Now if the workers were allowed to use their God given common sense she could have looked at me and thought to herself, yeah he's older than 18. In fact, I believe she could have seen that I was older than 40. Well maybe at least 30. Everyone likes to believe they look younger than they are.

Stupidity is definitely in, and the use of common sense is gone. Especially when it comes to covering someones butt.

I managed a convienience store back in the mid 80's We had apolice station on the other side of the parking lot. It was our policy that if two or more people came in together and one of them bought beer we had to card everyone in the group. Ayoung couple came in one evening and grabbed a six pack. he was 21 she was 19 I told them to drive around the block and only he come in. I thought it a little outrageous that I couldn't sell a six pack to two people.
