Hogs in Alabama
« on: August 31, 2004, 06:55:30 AM »
Me and a friend recently took up Pistol hunting for deer and are looking for good public land for hogs.
I have a uncle who has said that there is land in Greene county that is managed by the Army Corp. of Engineers that is open  to the public but cant seem to find info on the web.
Do the Army managed lands have the same laws as the WMA's about hunting during other open seasons.
Does anyone know if there are open lands to hunt in Greene county or better areas  closer to North Alabama to try your luck for hogs.

Try to get a copy of the lastest issue of Alabama Game and Fish Magazine. They have a good article on hogs in Bama. List as many places as they know of and mentioned that a new study is being done which the state will put out on where all they are.

It was mentioned that they think every county now has at least a small population somewhere but also mentioned they are very scattered.

Plenty of them along the Alabama River and down in the coastal swamps. Without looking on a map I'm not sure just where Greene Co. is. Clarke has a lot. And anywhere further south.

Thanks for the info. I will definetly pick up the magizine.

I notice you yourself are from Bama. Have you ever hunted the Army Corp. of Engineers  land,  I have heard many people talk about it but have never found a link to get a permit or the rules to hunt these areas.

What part of the state are you from?

No I've never hunted any Corps land. None I know of anywhere near me. I'm between Anniston and Gadsden but closer to Jacksonville than either of them. Calhoun County.
