World market prices will be higher, we will export more, our domestic oil and gas prices will go up a lot. ear

If we run into a shortage and accompanying high prices, we can lay all our misery at Obama's feet. But for him, we could be furnishing all our fuel from our own fields by now, and selling some to pay off the huge debt Obammy has run up on us !

The design of the pipeline is to be able to get the oil to export ports year round. They are not intended to help US consumers dirrectly at the pump. It is to serve the world market. ear

Virtually all oil eventually reaches the world market. Of course the Canadian crude doesn't go directly to the pumps, it has to go to the refineries first. Refineries..likely at places like Port Arthur, TX are connected to all kinds of distribution outlets, and can serve the US or world markets.
The advantage with the pipeline would be the 20,000 to 50,000 pipeline/refinery/oil industry jobs..plus the peripheral 500,000 or so jobs in trucking, manufacturing, hotels, housing, restaurants etc..
Plus the freedom from buckling under to an Iranian tyrant who wants to close the straits of Hormuz or do some other idiotic thing..
Besides all that oil money being generated and staying in North America, beats giving it to people in the mideast who hate and want to destroy us !

The embargo on Iran was postponed today. Oil prices fell some as news came out. Perhaps Obama finally realized (or some one told him) that high oil prices, which equals an economy worse than it already is, is not good for his election chances. In six months, he will have to postpone it again, at least until after November.
Now Iran can shut up for ten months about closing the straits[size=78%]. But oil will still go higher as the governments of the world print more money.[/size]

... And if he had any wits about him he would never have chased the rigs out of the gulf and encouraged drilling in our available reserves, such as ANWR. If that drilling and the pipeline were being built RIGHT NOW.. there would be perhaps by this time, a couple million available jobs in and about the energy industry...and the money would STAY HERE...DUH !!! Then he could effect a foreign policy without having to play footsie with the foreign tyrants.

I just cannot figure how a "highly educated" man ..can be so thick, so as to not see the natural consequences of his actions.... !!!.

The days of cheap oil are long gone. There are more than 7 billion people on earth and every last one of them wants to live just as you do now. There is little spare capacity and each day less proven reserves to draw upon. Even now we convert a large portion of our corn into alcohol to blend with oil to stretch the supply. Almost everyone on this board will live to see 6-7 dollar gasoline as a everyday thing. The world will probably never 'run out' of oil, but it will become too expensive to use as a widespread and easily available fuel. None of us has to like it but it is going to happen and it will be sooner than most think.

IG, he knows exactly what he's doing. He wants to set this country back to 3rd world status. He wants more people dependent on the govt. Food,clothing,housing,health care. If he would have ok'ed the pipeline from Canada, price of oil would have dropped. It will never happen with 'O in office. gypsyman

The decision to use ethanol in gasoline was NOT to stretch the fuel supply. Quite to the contrary, it reduces the fuel supply. The decision to use ethanol was a purely political one...designed to placate certain politician's voting blocks, namely the "greenies". Same reason the pipeline from Canada has been torpedoed. Ethanol gets much less mpg. A car that gets 30 mpg would only get 20 mpg on pure ethanol...for as long as the engine lasted.
Truth is, it takes more energy to produce a gallon of ethanol, than the gallon of ethanol produces in use ! I presume most here are familiar with Cornell University, and Ivy league school which is respected world-wide for it's expertise in agriculture and veterinary medicine. It should, now even the union is mad at him. Several here support him knowing that he is giving away thousands of jobs and much needed oil. WHY?? It should be apparent to ANYBODY that this was done to further hurt us. The pipeline would greatly reduce our need for ayrab oil. He wants us dependent of oil from his brothers. POWDERMAN.

the thing I don't understand is all these so called ''ethical people'' is why they would far rather buy Arab Oil from countries that have serious human rights issues than support NorthAmerican development of oil resources.Maybe they just turn their back on those people-out of sight-out of mind.
I also wonder how may people who denounced the Keystone pipeline realise there are ALREADY pipelines across Nebraska?And what will they offer the 10,000 men who COULD have had high paying jobs building it?I though the US economy could have used a shot in the arm like that...

well,I honestly thought the US would jump at the chance to secure a large supply of oil from a friendly country next door rather than be held hostage to Arab oil cartel whenever they felt like it.Seems like I was wrong....
what many people in the US may not know is the Canadian Athabaska oil sands CONTAIN AS MUCH OIL AS ALL OF ALL OF THE ARAB STATES.....and its only a pipeline away....
