Went to the range with the Handi 30 30 today
« on: January 11, 2012, 09:20:04 AM »
Got to shoot my handi 30 30 i put together couple weeks ago. I added a lam stockset and floated the barrel. Added a VX3 2.5-8x 36 leupold scope had shot some of the 160 hornady lever evolution bullets. They shot well but i wanted to see if i could duplicate them.

Nice, I should be getting my receiver back from H&R soon with a new 30-30 barrel, they say I should see it this week, hopefully.

Did you Chrono these?  Using the same powder, 36 grain weight with a 150 Nosler Ballistic tip I'm getting an average of 2300 fps from my Handi Rifle.  Accuracy not quite as good as yours, but good enough for deer in the 200-225 yard range.  I Was going to do more work with load development and perhaps try fine tuning the rifle a bit more but decided that good enough is good enough.  I may yet try upping the powder charge to see what speed vs accuracy I can get

i dont have a chrono (need to buy one) i was thinking the same trying to work it up some more. I did buy a box of 125 BT thinking about trying them to see. I also have a set of Ackley dies i may rent a reamer and open it up. Was  hoping Midway put them on sale (they do that every so often).

Ilion's trigger policy is in the FAQs, IIRC, if it's over 5½lbs, it's free, under is $20.
