Ultragon Rifling and Non-Sabot Slugs?
« on: January 11, 2012, 03:31:37 PM »
Anyone know if the Ultragon barrels are supposed to work with traditional non-sabot slugs? Any experience with them and/or handloading same? How about rifled slugs? (Kind of expecting rifled slugs to be a problem really.)

It can be done, but it may leave some led fouling in the barrel. The reviewer over at the Box O' Truth did it with good success.

Steel Ddupleks slugs will work in both smooth and rifled barrels.

It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

Geez... if those Ddupleks work as "seen on TV" they certainly make some gruesome wounds.  Interesting idea. Hard metal with integrated plastic bands. Not really suitable for home fabrication on the cheap, but definitely looks like a high performance projectile.
