Pennsylvania man, 65, fatally shoots teen who pushed him off bicycle

READING, Pa. – A 65-year-old man shot one teenager dead and wounded another after they pushed him off his bicycle and tried to rob him in Pennsylvania, police said.
The man was cycling on a trail in Reading, Pa., shortly before 11:00 am local time Wednesday morning, when a group of teens pushed him off the bicycle and two of them assaulted him, investigators said.
The 65 year old then took out a handgun and shot them both, the Reading Eagle reported.
One of the teens -- a 16 year old from Reading -- was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:17 p.m. local time.
The second teenager was taken to the hospital but his condition was unknown, according to the newspaper.
Cops arrested a third boy at the scene and took him in for questioning. The 15 year old was later taken to a county youth center in nearby Bern Township where he was held on unspecified charges.
Police decided to release the 65 year old and charge the juvenile after consulting with District
Attorney John Adams, who attended the scene with forensic detectives, the Reading Eagle reported.
Authorities did not release his name or the names of the teenagers.

Their race doesn't matter, punks is punks and there are plenty to go around. Too bad they don't get thinned out more by gun-toting citizens that are not afraid of being politically incorrect. And it seems like the DA has his head screwed on right.

I love stories with happy endings. I have ZERO tolerance for punks of any age. Good to see the gene pool get a small cleansing. I thought Penn was not very gun friendly. POWDERMAN.

Pa is very gun friendly, unless you are in Philly. Easy to get a permit to cc, no training course and we just passed a castle law. Local gov. can't pass laws that restrict guns only the state gov. can.

Whats sad, is that if these kids had some home training, ie. parenting, they just might have been alive, doing something meaningful, and this guy wouldn't have to live with the knowledge he had to kill a kid.

True it is very sad, but around here (I never been to Reading I live in the other end of the state) alot off the 15 or 16 year olds are harden crimmals at that age. I used to work security in a few low income housing projects and it was quite common for kids that age to be major drug dealer and make them self wealthy , if they got caught they would just go to juvie. If they made it to 18 they would go kind of straight , most of them did not live that long.

22 MAG. Thats good to hear. I read a while back that Pittsburg was really anti gun, I just assumed the state was too.
MECHANIC. You are right, but they didn't and were headed in a direction that they could have killed somebody some day. Sad yes, but good too that this might open the eyes of some other punks and make them see the error of their ways. POWDERMAN.

Pitts. not nearly as bad a Philly. We have open carry here with no permitt needed , but in Philly they make you have a permitt to open carry and even then they give you a hard time and till you can't open carry. Pitts. alittle better but not much. The rest of the state pretty good. One of the liberal media said Pa as Pitts. on one end Philly on the other an Alabama in between.

Here in upstate NY there are some trails where carrying is prohibited. I'd rather take my chances breaking that law than with punks. As long as I'm not carrying openly, no one will know.

A friend on another forum lives real close to there and said that most folks won't travel that trail unless in force because the punks prey on people there. He also said the projects are real close and the 65 yr old man was the punks 3rd victim that day. POWDERMAN.

The kid that got shot and lived will probably sue him or press charges against him and then the old guy will commit suicide.
This kind of thing happened in a local area where I grew up. An older, retired man shook up a kid that was doing some vandalism or something on his property. The parent charged the old man for something....assault or whatever....and the old guy who lived a perfectly healthy and law abiding life threw himself in front of a train because he couldn't deal with having charges pressed against him.
It would have been better for him if none of the punks got away.

BLACKHAWKER. Probably better for all of humanity too. Theres a case in Lou where a punk was killed playing games on old folks. The punk is dead, shooter in jail. Punks were out late at night on a school night too. Where were the parents?? POWDERMAN.
