Back-up Anyone?
« on: January 24, 2012, 02:10:44 PM »
Who else carries a back-up firearm? I carry a P-32 as back-up to my PF-9. I've heard the argument that if I can't eliminate the threat with the 9mm then the little .32 aint gonna help me much. But my point is easily made. What if you lose your primary firearm in a scuffle, or it malfuntions, for one reason or another you can't reach it? I can think of many situations where a back-up could prove very handy indeed. I also carry a SOG spring assisted knife. Better to have and not need than need and not have. :)

:) Usually, I carry on my person, one revolver and a knife..when I travel, I have several handguns, and usually a shotgun in the cab, and always a rifle...when going interstate..I have at least two handguns in the motel room and often a short pump shotgun..

i really dont think a backup is a bad idea. if you get in a situation where your haveing to give up your primary gun to someone who has the drop on you, a backup gun would possibly save your life, and other peoples lives as well.its all in the odds. chances are you will never need it but when yu do yu will need it really bad.does that make sense?

Kind of like wearing a belt with suspenders.  Probably not necessary, but then again you'll never get caught with your pants down.  ;D ;)

I Have read accounts where LEO's were not carrying a BUG and ended up on the wrong side of the grass because of some issue with the duty gun or could not reload the gun due to injury. It's hard to argue against the carry of a BUG to me. Even though those accounts were all LEO's that dose not mean it cant happen in the civilian world. You may have a gun that holds 18 rounds but what good is that if it jams on the 1st round or you have to try and do a 1 hand reload or its lost in a scuffle. I think the bigger issue is what kind and cal it should be. A very good argument could be made for your BUG to be the same cal as your main carry gun. If your main gun jams the ammo from it can still be used in the BUG if necessary. A PF 9 is pretty easy to hide. Why not 2 ? I know the P32 is much smaller and all that but how many carry a 9MM main gun and a J frame BUG. I know thats kind of hard to do if your main carry gun is 45ACP or other big bore cartrige. But it makes sence to me if you can

I've concidered getting another PF-9 as I really like the one I have. If I did, I still think I'd carry the P-32 as extra extra insurance. It is just so dang easy to conceal. :)

For me it just makes sense for the backup to use the same ammo and magazine. At work they issue a glock 23 in 40. So mine is a 27 in 40.

I do during the winter when its easier to conceal. Usually a 1911 or Glock 17 or 27, and a Ruger LCP in a pocket.
