Mississippians angry over Barbers pardons
« on: January 11, 2012, 03:41:53 PM »
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/11/us/gov-haley-barbour-of-mississippi-is-criticized-on-wave-of-pardons.html

And to add more insult to injury guess what Barber's plans are now that he departed office yep - He is going to be a lobbyist. No wonder Americans have no faith in govt.

From the records of some of them I'd say money changed hands. Several states are going for early release to save money. 2 weeks ago KY released 1,000 prisoners early in one day. 250 went to Lou. The local missions were swamped and stressed to the max. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Our state Attourney General is bringing charges to try to prevent the release of many of them. ear

With an apology to the warden in *Cool Hand Luke*, What we have here is a failure to elect a Democrat.

All this upset about some people being pardoned. I don't see that big a problem here. I see a much bigger problem with crooked prosecutors, abusive cops, and divorce lawyers who should be beaten to death.

Pardon? That's a good thing, relative to those named above.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

This is one of those stories where you need to hear both sides before you go off on a rant.  According to the news I heard, all of the releasees were approved by parole boards and the motivation behind the Governor's pardons was to hopefully allow the released prisoners to have a better chance at finding a job.

None of that is to say that I approve.  With things the way they are, I have come to believe that if a person does something bad enough to warrant prison time, it would be much more practical to just shoot them and be done with it.

Until I heard it on the news last night I did not realize that a pardon also restored all rights that are usually taken away with a felony conviction. Now that a judge is intervening we will have to wait to see the final outcome.

As it should be. The idea of, "you're pardoned, but you're not a full citizen with inalienable God-given rights" is just wrong.

Waaaaay too easy for rights to be privileges, these days... if they were ever really rights.

I was under the impression that most of them were pardoned to restore voting and hunting rights. If that's the case, they were probably already on probation or serving out their term in some other manner in which they had already been released back into the general population.

I have to agree with magooch...both sides of the story are definitely needed before raising a raucous about it.

Does he? Well... many AG/prosecutors are scumbags who could give ---- less about justice.. it's all about winning. They don't want to be second-guessed, as they see it.

if the AG is opposed to it, then I'm all the more for it. Haley Barbour I'll trust more than a prosecutor.
