Springfield XDM .40 S&W Pistol Info wanted
« on: December 31, 2011, 05:39:13 AM »
Hi Guys:

I got some Cabela Cards for CHRISTmas and my acquired Cabela points are starting to burn a hole in my pocket.

I am thinking about adding another .40 S&W caliber to my stable. I am hearing allot of good things about the Springfiled XDM pistols.  :)

I am looking for some input on the guys that have them and have many rounds down range with them. I am especially interested in the two tone package. Undecided if I want the 3.8 inch barrel or the 4. in or 4.5 inch. I already ready a Glock 27 and love it. I want this next .40 to be a little bigger than the the 27 and carry more rounds. I like the fact about the XDM being able to use two different capacity magazines in one pistol. Plus the package that comes with it seems to real nice, many accessories included.

SOooooo what do you XDM owners think of this handgun?

The HS2000 (Hrvatski Samokres (Croatian Pistol)), or XD (X-treme Duty) are a series of semi-automatic pistol that are polymer-framed and striker-fired. Manufactured in the city of Karlovac, Croatia by HS Produkt (formerly I.M. Metal), the Springfield Armory XD or XDM is the marketing name for the weapon, which is licensed and sold in the US by Springfield Armory, Inc.[2]

If you are interested in a polymer-framed, striker fired pistol with a very similar design and handling characteristics as the Springer check out the S&W M&P series.  The S&W M&P is made right here in the USA and is backed by S&W's lifetime warranty and excellent customer service.   I handled both before going with with the Smith mainly for the above reasons. I'm not saying one pistol is any better than the other just pointing out a couple of significant facts.

Oh, forgot... Mine is a .40 full size (4.25" barrel), 15+1 capacity, no thumb safety, no mag. disconnect.

Good points Brett, but also consider that The XDs also create American jobs, and  that Springfields customer service doesn't take a back seat to S&W, either. Products that are imported generate jobs in the shipping, handling, sales, and product support job markets, as well as stimulating aftermarket support communities. I'm not talking about cheap Chinese crap, which is a parasite on the world market, but about quality products, sold at competitive prices, by manufacturers & importers who bet their futures on these products. Wal-Mart be damned.

There's nothing wrong with the XDs, although I too would like to see them, and Glocks manufactured here.

I was merely pointing out to the OP that there is another viable option to the XD out there that he may want to consider before making a final decision.

Never said there was anything wrong with the XDs.  In fact I even indicated they were a strong candidate when I was looking for a .40cal., striker fired polymer pistol.

As far as the home grown vs imported product, 'which is better for the economy?' argument goes.  If all else is equal I would just as soon keep all my American dollars right hear in America.  I know this is not always possible nor feasible.  However, the XD and M&P are so similar you sacrifice nothing by going with the entirely American product.

I don't have an XD40 but I do have a XD45 and the gun is accurate and very reliable. Went out over the weekend and shot 400 rounds with no issues at all. All of the Springfield XD owners I know love them.

Well I will answer your question. I do have an XDM 40 two tone and I love everything about it.  Only thing I would do differently is go with the 4" instead of the 4.5" for cc reasoning, but it's only 1/2".  Everything that is stated in the ads for the XDM is accurate and I would not move down to the XD, because the advancements are certainly worth the extra money.  Great package, great accessories, awesome gun.  Go shoot one and you will like it better than your Glock, I guarantee it...
A Buddy of mine brought over a S&W M&P 9mm that he bought for his Dad for Christmas and I will honestly say that I was not at all impressed and would not have traded even if it was a 40 and a couple $100 to boot... It had a terrible trigger, and I mean awful!  The XDM trigger is sweet for an off the rack pistol.  And I do like S&W - for revolvers (just bought a .38 snubby), but for auto's not so much...

Buckskin, You are comparing apples and oranges comparing an XDm (match) to a standard M&P.   A fair comparison would be XDm to M&P pro.  Both have competition grade triggers.   Also I can assume that the M&P had very few rounds threw it since it was a Christmas present.  The trigger on my M&P is breaking in nicely and just keeps getting better with use.

Again, not bashing the XDm by any means just saying the OP should handle/shoot both before spending his money.

You're right, probably shouldn't compare the XDm to the standard M&P, but I have also shot the standard XD and would give the edge to the Springfield. The XD just has a better overall feel to me.  By all means shoot both and go with the one you like.

And since you brought the American made thing into this, it's hard for me not to mention S&W's faults as well. So here it is summarized nicely by Chuck Hawks...

Now as I said I just bought a new 629 snubby, because it was better than Ruger or anything else I could find. But still have a bitter taste in my mouth for S&W from the Clinton years...

Hi Guys:

Thanks for all the info. I was at Cabelas today checking them out. They do not have the 3.8 in Duo Tone with the 11 1 & 13 1 clip package. The dude I was talking to said they never received one in and don't carry that model? They did have the 3.8 in barrel with the 16 shot clip though... $699 Same price for 4.5 in. duo and 16 shot clip.

I was looking at the 4.5 in. barrel one with the 16 shot clip. Yeah I think it is just a bit to big for CC use.

Cabelas really has no good deals as far as prices go. They are about $130 more than I can find the same gun on Gunbroker. Even adding $35 for shipping and $30 registration Gunbroker is still a better deal than Cabelas.  :o

I was on a business trip and took my expired by (2) days, employee discount coupon I got in the mail and they wouldn't honor it. That pissed me off enough to walk away and look some more. Even with $200 Cabela points and $200 worth of CHRISTmas Cabela gift cards. So much for customer loyalty.  >:(

I did look at the S&W M&P's and thought the XDM felt a bit better in my hand, and the striker trigger pull was pretty sweet. I also looked at the Springfield EXP also. The EXP was sweet but so was the $1150 price tag.  :P

Still looking and thinking. I really am leaning toward the 3.8 duo with the two different size clips. I just may use my CB points on something else and buy on Gunbroker or another local gunstore I frequent.

I've got the 3.8"  16 rd XDM and I just shot 250 rounds out of it yesterday.  Mine is all black, they did not have an OD Green in stock when I was ready to buy.  I went with the 3.8 for cc but I did not opt for the shorter mags because I have large hands.  So far it has been an excellant gun with no malfunctions at all.  The carry case full of accesories is another reason I decided to go with the XDM.  Over all I have been very happy with this handgun.

I got mine at Cabelas, but it was on sale. I would check out Buds Gun Shop for internet sales.  I've bought 2 guns from them and their prices are hard to beat.

Hi Guys:

Well I picked up an XDM with a 3.8 in. barrel, duo tone, with the 16 shot mags, no compact. After handling them somemore I decided to keep all the mags the same, high capacity and big. This way I won't have to worry on what one I am sticking in the pistol. Besides extra mags are slightly more expensive for the compact because of that extra plastic base.

I couldn't find one with Night Sights so I ordered a set from Optical Planet. Just had them installed this weekend. I am impressed with all the accessories that came in the case with the XDM.

The proof will be in the pudding, hoping to shoot it next weekend. Thanks for all the info.
