310 yard Pigeon with my Handi 7mm-08
« on: January 21, 2012, 07:01:22 AM »
Well the ballistic tables don't lie.  We sighted in both Patty's and my light 7mms at 40 yards with 115 gr. Sierra handloads.  They're dead on again at 175.  If I recall correctly, the tables said about 6 low at 300.   I shot off the back porch with just a hand rest on the rail. The breeze was light and perpendicular to the shot so I held 6 high and a couple to the right.  The bird never flinched.  It's on the ground at the base of the 300 yard gong with an extra ten yards from the shooting bench to the back porch.  Now ya gotta ask, do we like these rifles?

Great penetration Tim.  I recovered a perfect mushroom under the skin on the off side ::) ::) ........Yeah, sure ;D

Another "thank you" has to go to Brian56.  Both these rifles are testimony to his knowledge and skill.

Gotta love the 7-08 !
Here's another testimony about fun and accuracy;
 Gave my son the 1-12 223 for his Graduation last June with enough handloads to keep him busy. When asked how it's shootin he said he's gotta stop for awhile, there's no pigeon's left in the barn.
 He takes'm out as they roost on the cupola from about 150yrds with Barnes Varmint Grenades.
