I always look for companies that advertise free shipping. Recently I called in an order for $100+, but under $125 to SG. When I asked about free shipping, the customer service rep told me the free shipping was for orders $125, and above. I promptly cancelled, my entire order, and explained to the rep why I was doing so. The next day I received an email offer of free shipping from the same company for any order over $30. I called them back and gave the same order I tried to order the day before. If I can't get what I need at local stores, or with free shipping, my attitude is that I can wait.
Dinny - I would call the company's customer service department, and try to get the "handling charges" reversed. Like GB said, handling is part of the transaction, and shouldn't be extra.
