Protect the Whales (Killer Whales that is)
« on: January 20, 2012, 02:42:12 PM »
Steller Sea Lions are in a decline.  Recovery is not going well.  Environmentalist are in an uproar trying to discover why Sea  Lions are not recovering.  Today the results of a study on Sea Lion recovery has been released.  The cause of the failure to recover is because Killer Whales are eating all the young every year.

Commercial fishermen are going YES, YES, YES.  Sea Lions are the worst thing that can happen to a fisherman.  Now they need to lure the Killer Whales down to Washington, Oregon, and California.  Or could their already being there be the cause to Sea Lions moving onto the docks in those areas.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I'm rooting for the orcas; I have absolutely no use for Stellar's Sea Lions and I'm not too sure about California Lions.  Heck, I'm not very fond of harbor seals.  They all eat salmon and sturgeon and poop in the water.  And worse yet, they bug the heck out of me sometimes when I'm out in my kayaks.

By the way Sourdough, there is no shortage of sea lions in this area at all.  I"m talking about the Columbia river and a lot of its tributaries.  Those fish eating machines go up some of the smaller rivers where the fish have no chance at all.  Lions and seals are also extremely prolific in Puget Sound too.  I've seen reports that claim that the orcas up in the sound (natives) only eat fish.  They need to change their diets.

I think I mentioned in another post that orcas have been reported munching on sea lions down at the coast.  There was a newspaper report some time back about a couple of orcas being sighted about 60 miles up the river, but it wasn't verified as far as I know.

The environmental groups and the US Marine protection agents are upset about the sudden decline of Sea Otters, and their failure to recover as well.  Reason has finally been determined, Orcas.  One of their favorite foods, as well as Sea Lions.
