Pre-64 Model 70 question
« on: January 27, 2012, 04:44:06 AM »

In looking at pre-64 Win Mod 70s online, it appears that some have a straight stock and some have a raised cheekpiece.   I don't see any consistency of these features that turns on whether the rifles were pre-war or post-war, full length or carbine, or standard weight or featherweight.

What is the story here?  Was the raised cheekpiece just an optional feature?   Was it only offered on magnum calibers?  Or what?

  Thanks for all info.

I believe it to be just stock options. FWT and supergrade stocks are different (mostly the butt plate, trigger gaurd, floor plate, etc).

I have seen high combs on all stock combinations. More so on more post-war models. I've IMO seen more straight stocks on re-war rifles. I believe cheek pieces are only on supergrade stocks. I don't believe it was offered on just mags. Recoil redeuction pads were.

Your better off with a corporate bond in the long run. :P :o
