Quote
two-thirds of Americans would consider voting for a third-party presidential candidate, while 48 percent definitely wanted a third party in the race.

Only way those numbers make sense is if DEMs are upset too ... something to think about.

How would a 3rd party President fare with Congress?

The only way a 3rd Party candidate would win the Presidency is on ideas since he has no "blind" party loyalty to lean on.
When almost 1/2 of the people aren't happy with their respective party's candidates, that sounds like dissatisfaction with party direction. The question I'd have is if that 48% is a combination of the very left and very right, in which case a single 3rd party wouldn't solve the problem. I speculate that there is actually an anti-progressive camp in each of the current 2 parties, that might be able to work together to form a viable 3rd.

The tea party has been very quiet through all of this campaigning for some reason. Ya reckon they, WE, are planning a surprise attack for real Americans?? Who would they run?? POWDERMAN.  :o :o

The Tea Party appears to be sticking to its original vision as a grassroots awareness entity, not a political party. Seems to me that many of the folks who were active in the TP are Ron Paul supporters as a candidate since he's not played to win so much as hes used the campaign to raise awareness. Interestingly enough, the Tea Party grabbed a broad spectrum of race, religion, geography, even political parties - there are some moderate Dems that feel they have more in common with the TP than with where their party is going. Ron Paul has also brought out young typically liberal voters, winning 49% of the under 30 vote in Iowa - if you cut out everyone over 40, he won in a landslide. These are the folks the Dems target, and most folks are at the most liberal when they're young. But they are not happy with the way things are, and they don't trust the DEM or GOP agenda, starting to sound alike.

I'd rather the TP not become a 3rd party and stay where they are, but from their ranks a 3rd party could grow that would draw from those that are just fed up and tired and would like to get off the merry go round.

IMO If you are going to have a 3rd party you might as well open the gate for more and use a percentage base to seat members of the House.

If I'm not mistaken, apart from the percentage, that was the original plan, and the Senate was NOT supposed to be a popular election, instead representing State leadership, providing a check and balance to the House. A multi-dimensional check and balance through a bicameral legislative branch, if you will.

My only issue with a percentage base is that without a limit, you could wind up with as many parties as representatives. The whole purpose of a popular election was to put forward candidates with broad support, representing many special interest groups, not just one.

Even today, neither party has the people's attention. We've lost that loving feeling.
