:(  I don't have many traps to start off with in my first season. I missed two coons before I realized on of my coils had loose jaws how do I fix this & can it be fixed? The trap I believe is a 1.5 coilspring.

                                           Tabbycat Elkins  :(  :cry:

:D O.K.  what I mean by that is  one of the springs is loose & not closing all the way leaving a gap when closed where they should be fully closed.

Tabbycat;
  Have you checked to see if the pan is dropping all the way and hanging so the jaw can't completely close.  I have had this happen on a certain brand of trap a couple of times.  The pan is sometimes a little large and if it goes completely down, it won't let the jaws snap completely shut leaving one jaw loose.  If this is happening, I just grind off the side of the pan a little and it will work fine then.  I like the brand of trap and will continue to use them, but just every once in a while, I will find one like I described.

I don't believe it's the pan, cause one of the durn springs nearly falls off the poor thing! Now that I tried to tweak back tight :)  Loks like new springs will have to be ordered :(  I guess I will just overhaul the 4 traps that I do have before buying new ones. Thanx for the info tho :grin:

WQ;
  That's exactly how I found the problem :(   I found a trap that had caught a coyote and the pan had the jaw held open just enough to let him get away.  From that point on, I checked, double checked, and triple checked the traps before they were ever put in the ground.  Apparently you know the brand trap I am referring to and have had the same problem.

I looked it over again & have also found the ear or lever on that side to be wallered out at the holes where the spring slides thru.. also checked again with the pan situation you mentioned. I'm o.k. in that area though.
