Results from my first 3 gun competition
« on: January 23, 2012, 12:22:54 AM »
My buddy convinced me to go to a long range Modified F Class competition yesterday at Big Piney Sportsman's Club in Houston Missouri yesterday.  They also ran a 3 gun match yesterday.  I have a WASR 10 AK that I had only shot once before, I borrowed my little brothers ragged out 870 duck gun, and a Sig 226 that I borrowed from my friend who was also compteting.  I checked the Big Piney website today to see my results and placed 1st in my division!  I'm absolutely blown away.  I honestly expected to place close to last as I had ran past a couple targets and had to go back and shoot them.  I guess this is proof to show that you don't need the best gear in the wolrd to be proficent at handling weapons and have a good time.

I strongly encourage you guys that haven't tried this to go on the web and find a range near you that has these types of competitions.  They are a LOT of fun and a great way to improve your shooting and weapons coordination.

I didn't fare so well in the F class though I did place 10th out of 17 shooters.  It was really windy and foggy.  Also the reloads I had preformed poorly past 600 and my optics don't quite have enough magnification past 600.   I was really nervous about this being my first competition but in the end I had a ton of fun and i'm looking forward to the next match I can go to!

This was the first time at trying the three gun. We used bowling pins for shotgun targets. The only problem was bounce back from shot hitting the pins. We are going to see what happens when we shoot some steel targets with the shot.

Today was windy, but not as bone chilling cold as yesterday[/u]. We had a large turnout and saw some faces that we hadn't seen[/u] in a long time. We appreciate those who went down range[/u] to help score and paste targets.

Some target assignments were changed while we were down range and those who recorded the scores at the clubhouse were unaware of the changes. The scores and places listed below are the corrected ones. We saw some very good shooting today. The difference between 1st and 3rd in the open class was only two
points[/u].

I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

Way to go Sam, congrats on your win.  The hard part for most people in three gun, is the shotgun phase.  Most people flub the reload in the shotgun stage, guess you aced that part.
