I WANT a mark 2.... don't have one though.  I am limited on funds (actually I have money but it's allocated to pursuits other than my toys) till my wedding this summer and just realized that I need to hunt squirrels  :'(

I have a lefty Mark II with laminated thumbhole stock & accutrigger, heavy barrel. Put an AETEC on it in burris Z rings. Cost about $440,the scope is silver,on sale at Natchez for $90. I would buy it again, satisfied.Shoots better with premium ammo.

Guys, the heavy barrel MKII is a very accurate rimfire. I have best results with wolf match extra, when on the cheap I use wolf match target. You can see what a few extra bucks gets you in accuracy. The targets are 75 yards on a dead calm day with no thermal up drafts. My $400 dollar savage out shoots my euro sudo yuppie over priced wonder I will leave nameless as not to P off any fellow bench guys.

Hey Marine! That's a fine looking piece of equipment.
Chef, I considered a LH rifle but I've always used RH boltguns.

If everything works out like I hope, there'll be one waiting to go to the range by this Saturday. My birthday's coming this Saturday and I caught the wife whispering about guns to her brother yesterday. We'll see!

Well, things didn't go like I wanted on Sat. I went to Gander Mtn. to get my rifle and they had sold the last one. None of the associates had any idea as to when they'd return to stock. To find this out, I'd need to talk to a manager, who all seem to disappear when needed. I called back on Monday, left a message for a manger to return my call and waited...and waited... NO Call! Tuesday morning, back on the phone and ended up with someone who had a clue! Turns out they had 2 in stock and the buttmunches on Saturday were too lazy to bother checking their computer for availability.
I left work 15 minutes early and beat feet across town. BY 6:15 I was the owner of a new Savage MarkII! I couldn't remember if I had mounts so I got a set of Millet Mediums. Hopefully they'll be high enough so my scope ain't on the barrel. I'm setting it up tonite, but have to wait until Monday to play. I've got some Rem Target, Win standard vel HPs and a 550 box of Federals. It'd be nice if those Federals are minute of squillhead!
I'll keep ya'll posted on my results.

Note to self... When ya question ring height get the next *&^$##@ size! Went thru all of my mounts last nite and even removed a scope or 2 only to find that the 4x12 wasn't gonna work with what I had. It's got a big, fat AO ring on it.  Ended up sticking a 3x9 rimfire scope on it for now. I'll have to make another trip to one of my least favorite stores to exchange for the next higher set.

I went into "rig it" mode last nite. I was finding and cutting all kinds of stuff for "shims". Couldn't quite come up with anything that'd work.

Got to shoot my new rifle Monday. Winds blowing up to 40mph but hey, I had the day off so... Anyhoo, It  took me a few shots to get in the paper, but once there things started loooking good. I was shooting Federals(550 box), Win HPs. and Remington Target. The Remingtons shot the best. 8 shots into a hole not much bigger than the bullet, with the exception of 2 I pulled. Not too shabby for me doing the trigger pulling. The Feds shot second best. The Wins did okay, but didn't justify the extra I paid for them.

The 3x9 currently on it has thick crosshairs. Fine for hunting early and late but not so much for targets. The dots I was shooting at got lost behind the wires. The 4x12 I'll be putting on has much thinner wires and a huge opening  on the front for gathering all kinds of light.

All in All, I'm a happy camper!

I've got a Mk II Target, the model that comes with aperture sights. A most accurate rifle with the very nice AccuTrigger. I only use it indoors in the winter, shooting bullseye at 50 ft. I use Wolfe Match Rifle in mine as it's the best I found for it. I did get another stock for it, a laminated, because the molded factory stock just messed the balance of this fine rifle.

You can't beat the Savage MKII's for the money. I have four, a MKII F, MKII FV, aTR .22 & a TR 17HMR.  The F shoots good, but the FV with the heavy barrel is more consistant as it warms up. The TR's are about as good as it gets. I worked the trigger over on the FV & try as I might, I couldn't get the same results with the TR triggers. They have both been replaced with Rifle Basix triggers. A much better trigger in my opinion. The FV has a new Boyd's tactical stock. The factory stock is good, but I like thefeel of the tactical much better. I added a EGW 20 MOA scope rail the .22's & the .17 wears a DIP 25 MOA rail. As far as the MKII F goes, I did som trigger work & added a Center Point scope & loaned it to my son. I don't know if I'll ever get it back!

I bought a MK II TR a couple of days ago. I love the look and feel of the gun. At first it would not shoot real consistent for some reason. I was really getting disappointed. We have learned from experience that some guns need tip pressure, I don't know why  but some do. My buddy folded some tin foil and put it under the barrel about 4" from the tip of the stock. Now it will consistently shoot 5 shot groups under .5" at 30yds with standard velocity CCI ammo. I couldn't be happier with this gun. You can't go wrong with any of the MK II.

Bought a Mark II 2 weeks ago, heavy barrel, laminated stock. Came with Bushnell 3-9X40 scope from the factory.
After sighting in, I shot a perfect 200 score on the A-17 target. This gun is a real tack driver with the right ammo.

Have since replaced the scope with a Bushnell 6-24 X 40 AO, mil dot. Haven't had a chance to sight it in yet, but
I am looking forward to even better performance from this gun.

You need to replace that thin bottom metal so you can torque the screws to 20 in/lbs.
