Recently, I have picked up an early 90's new model Ruger Super Blackhawk for a really nice price.  The problem is (like most Rugers) that it could use a little trigger and action work.  I did some trigger/action work on a few Blackhawks in the past but I've read some nice things about the Power Custom Kits.  I'm wondering how these work and if they are nearly "drop in" kits.  Additionally, the kits I have seen have standard Blackhawk hammer spurs.  I like the hammer spur of the Super Blackhawk and would like to keep it that way if possible but the Power Custom Kits all seem to have the standard hammer.  Has anyone ever seen a kit with a SBH style hammer?

Any input on this is much appreciated.
Thanks.

they make a bisley hammer spur that works well. the hammer has a half cock notch that clicks. i have one in my 44 special flattop and love it. i even killed a deer this year and the extra click never bothered the deer. i have some old models that are louder, i just havent been able to get a deer with them yet. as far as the parts go you may have to do some grinding on the hammer strut, and timing may or may not need to be dealt with. i had to time the 44 special, but playing with a 41 magnum and the hammer\trigger kit, it times out perfect. get an extra pawl just to be safe if you get the kit. here is the gun with the power hammer. there are instructions on making everything work right in the kit.

flexjr,
Thanks for the info.  Is your .44 special flattop in stainless steel or blued finish?  I have seen the bisley hammer kit but as far as I have seen, it only comes in the blued finish.  My SBH is stainless and I think it might look a little odd with a blued hammer, even though the only blued portion of the hammer is the outer edging.

I shot that .44 the other day and I really hate square trigger guards.  What on earth was Ruger thinking by putting one of those on a .44?  After my knuckle banging episode, I'm starting to think about putting a Bisely grip on it too!

Whatever you decide to do, you won't go wrong with the Power Custom hammer and trigger. Every one that I have (5 now I believe) all break as clean or better than other guns I have done trigger work on.

That square trigger guard is cussed by some and loved by others. Same thing with the Bisley grip. It is  something that differs by individual. The second handgun I ever owned was a SBH, and that trigger guard ate me up. I traded the gun. Many years later I found a nice OM Super priced right and I bought it. First shooting session I was ready for that trigger guard to open some skin, but it did not even hit me. I have come to the conclusion that over 25 years of shooting I now use a higher grip than when I was a beginner. I shoot better now than I ever did back then, and I have two Supers and do not find the square Dragoon trigger guard a problem. Another option is different grips. There are several that will "fill in" behind the trigger guard.

Good luck!

speaking from experience, you will be dollars ahead to get a gun that is a bisley from the day it left ruger. also ruger isnt selling stainless bisley gripframes to the general public anymore. the last complete set i know of for stainless bisley went for $250.  you might check on getting a gunsmith to round the trigger guard. i have an old seville in 44 magnum and with the heaviest 44 magnum loads i can get my hands on recoil isnt bad. it has the superblackhawk gripframe shape with a rounded triggerguard.

I think what I'm going to do first is open this SBH up and clean the inners up.  If that action works a little smoother, that'll be good enough for now.  As for the knuckle cutting edges of the trigger guard:  I'll work the corners over and smooth them down.  I did this once before on my first stainless Blackhawk.  The stainless is pretty easy to work with and one can't even tell that it's been worked if you do it right.
