There for a minute I thought someone was going to be debating the meriets of the 308 for pelt collecting.  Guess I shouldnt jump to conclusions huh?  So I take it that was a "one shot stop" ?  Looks like if that would have hit a little lower you could have had a two piece cat.

One year a teenager in the hunt club was sitting on the tail gate of his truck looking at a bobcat he had shot with a 270 in the face. When I walked up he ask if it could be saved and mounted .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Ok I am conffused. ???
Was the cat shot with a 270 or a 308?  What grain bullet?
Looks like the deer my uncles shoot with 130 grain .270's at short to mid range.  Lots of damage and jelly meat.
My guess is if you shoot the light bullets for caliber similar results are going to happen if using anyting from 6mm to 308.
I think a 180 grain Pionted soft point or a 190 grain match ammo would make a hole in and out being fired from a 308.
tossing the heavy bullets all day will wear on a varmint shooter.
The long heavy bullet will not expand and will just sail through Coyote and Cats retain energy over long distance, and the heavy bullet will be less effected by wind and heat distortion.

Well if you hit bone thats what happens!  ::) If you would have used a cast bullet and hit it in the ribs it would have been a bullet hole sized exit! Or maybe try FMJ!   I just shot a yote yesterday with 69 gr Hp SMK and it was bullet hole in and out -ZERO expandtion!  That bullet was running at over 3000fps MV .

OK,here's the story. We had a bad season with 'coons.Lost count how many i shot off and around my feeder. We all know what happens if you feed a stray cat.Guessing all the easy coon meat attracted them.In the last ten days of deer season I shot four bobcats. The picture is one of two"kittens" i got one morning.Got momma the week earlier and another full grown female a few days later. The kittens looked full grown but weighed about half the full grown ones.So ,I shot them from a deer stand hunting deer. The pictured one was with a 150 grain Sierra Gameking at about 100 yards.Couple inches of spine went out the exit hole.As an aside...my turkeys seemed much more relaxed come turkey season.

Nice management shot. Might see a better whitetail fawn survival as well as more turkeys.

I was in the Tannery this week.  Al had a bunch of Arctic Foxes (White) that had been shot by a bunch of young men that went up on the North Slope.  The ones shot with .17 HMRs and .22RFs were beautiful little animals and will make great mounts.  The ones shot with .223s, 22-250s, .243s, .308s were all too damaged to be of any good.  The one shot with the .243 was actually blown in half.  The 22-250 had a small hole in and a hole the size of a soft ball on the back side.  The .223 he had shot two, one with a small hole in and a silver dollar size hole out, shot at a distance of 150 yards.  The other one had a small hole in and a base ball size hole out, shot at close range, 40 yards.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

This is why I swapped to 17 center fires years ago. Back then there were draw backs but the trade off was worth the outcome for many folks. Today with better bores and heavier bullets there isn't a whole lot holding them back.
