Some of us may feel guilty if we killed a Bigfoot. I wonder if a tranquilizer dart could be used? A Bigfoot in the flesh, live or dead, would answer a number of questions and allow many scientific tests, etc. Thus, finding and kill or capturing a Bigfoot for further study needs to be the goal. Finding such a creature may lead to its being placed on the endangered species list, etc.

Some people may feel guilty about killing a BF, but not me. i know i'd be adding to a scientific finding that would shake the foundation of the outdoor world. sure a tranq dart could be used, it would be the logistics of getting it done thats the real hurdle. yes , thats what ive been saying for years, a BF's body is whats needed for any real classification.  yes, most likely it would immediately be classified as endangered and protected, it would need to be, every hunter out there would see it as the ultimate prey and go after it.

What about pixies, sprites, and leprechauns? Where do mermaids, unicorns, giants and mothman fit into this search? Has the "science been settled? Are these creatures all figments or are they extinct? Are they trans dimensional?

I'm thinking there needs to be a bit more caffeine consumed in the bush. Too many folks slipping into dream state while on the deer stand.

science is a relative new kid of the block of humans trying to explain the world around them.
before science, we had explainations of the natural world by observation only.
things known thru trial and error were passed on by religious men, shamans , witch doctors and the clergy of the major religions.
things unknown, were explained by ghost or monster stories. those stories sometimes turned into legends.
pixies, wood sprites, mermaids and many other mysteries fit into the made up stories column.

the world is not flat, thunder is not a gods hammer, the earth is not the center of the universe. so yeah on one level, the science has been settled, on the other hand, there is alot left in the world that has not explained to the standards of science .
yeah i think all of these creatures are figments of mans imagination. its all about that gene i talked about in that other thread.
any talk of quantum physics and other dimensions, in my opinion has no place in this discussion. the reason is, the top scientific minds are only guessing when it comes to things quantum related.. and other dimension are not testable and cant hold up to the scientific method .. any real discovery of a Bigfoot has to have a basis in biology and be studied in a scientific way.

Well, if it has to have a basis in biology then I'm gonna try using my sister for bigfoot bait again.  That's biology, pure and simple.  She used to be a middle eastern dance instructor, which is biology, pure and simple.  If I ask her to dance around 1911 Crazy's cookfire while he is cookin' up some of his Limburger cheeseburgers, that is also biology, pure and simple and the t rap will be set.
So, if bigfoot is real and hangs around 1911 Cray's place in norther Vermont or Connecticut, or travels unknowingly through dimentional portals to get there, then the combination of my sister's dancing and the lure of the Limburger cheeseburger cooking smells should get'm, and then we will have biological proof, pure and simple.
Ya see, when Biggie comes in for the burgers, my sister jumps him and that will be the end of his story, pure and simple.  I have seen some big men, and I mean some really big seriously large guys who did't stand a chance around my sister... once she takes a liking to ya, your number is up so ya might just as well get used to it......... and she likes big hairy guys too.
Steven Hawking - sorry Scibaer but I always felt he appreciated the notoriety of his disability a bit too much and probably would not have gotten much public attention without it.  Top brain - maybe.  Theorist but possible crackpot - definately.  And, English.    Interesting enough is that treatment for his condition was available just after WWII and could have helped him during early onset.  jmtcw.

The best thing about science is that it constantly changes.  Every 5 years they admit they were wrong.....again.....it's mostly bs.

Yeah, but I really hope it can be proven. Apart from BF, it would go a long way in explaining where some of my 1/4" drive sockets roll away to when I'm working under my car.

well no. just the opposite is true. science does change, thats part of the process.
new tests are done, knew data comes to light and theories are developed. its all part of the scientific method. if they find themselves to be wrong, they admit it, make corrections and work with the new data.
its hardly bs, its the best tool we have for understanding our world. i'd argue the 5 year mark too, alot of, maybe most of what we know, that  knowledge has never changed.

It's just guess work and speculation.  You can base nothing on science.

Lol, after I re-read the statement a few times, I could only interpreted Swampman's statement as meaning that there are is much that we don't know about everything around us. How do we find out more? Apparently not the scientific method. Interesting!

Not long ago science and the church said the earth was flat.  Not long ago science said our solor system had nine planets.  Not long ago science said light only traveled in a straight line.  Not along ago science said nothing could travel faster than the speed of light.  Not long ago science said matter could neither be created or destroyed.  What will they change their minds about tomorrow?

no, i think you have read into that statement way to far.
its called be evasive, when someone doesnt not explain themselves fully.

Not long ago science and the church said the earth was flat.

yes, then science proved it was not flat and the church was forced to concede.

Not long ago science said our solor system had nine planets.
yes, and science has made studies and relabeled some planetary bodies to better suit astromonical observations

What will they change their minds about tomorrow?

maybe its a lack of understanding here, of what science is and how it works ...
science doesnt change its mind, it test and retest, adding new findings and data, and developing new knowledge.

i.e., no science is saying the earth is yet again flat.
no science is claiming that light can now only travel in a straight line.
actually they found out the testing equipment was faulty when they claimed to track a sub-atomic particle traveling faster then light.
they made a retraction to that.
and its a foundation of scientific knowledge that matter can not be destroyed , only changed into another form(type)of matter.
they have not changed directions on that to my knowledge.
reagrdless, they dont change their minds, and therefor saying "science dont prove anything" is just turning off your mind.

those that were paying attention to the OT knew the earth was round.
Isaiah 40:22 mentions it.

Some people take "the circle of the earth" in Isaiah 44:22 to be a reference to a spherical earth.
This would mean that the ancient Israelites of the 8th century BC knew that the earth was spherical and not flat.

This idea shows up in arguments from both creationistsand from those wanting to argue an absolutely literal reading of the biblical text, usually to support the idea that God revealed modern scientific facts and data to the ancient Israelites.

The Hebrew word that is used in Isaiah 44:22 (chug) does not at all imply a spherical earth. The root word only occurs in the Hebrew Bible once as a verb (Job 26:10). In nominal forms, the same root occurs four times, three as the noun (chug; Job 22:14, Prov 8:27, Isa 40:22), and once as the noun (mechugah; Isa 44:13), referring to a "circle instrument," a device used to make a circle, what we call a compass.

It was not referring to a round earth, but a tool for carpentry.  infact the church fought against a round earth, and that the earth was not the center of the universe for many centuries. ie. Galileo circa 1640.

The Greek were fully aware that the Earth was a sphere.  One of the most famous mathematicians of all time was Eratosthenes "who will always be remembered for the calculation of the Earth's circumference circa 240 BC, using trigonometry and knowledge of the angle of elevation of the Sun at noon in Alexandria and Syene (now Aswan, Egypt). The calculation is based on the assumption that the Earth is spherical and that the Sun is so far away that its rays can be taken as parallel."
