Encore 454
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:50:36 PM »
Did thompson do a better job of cutting the chambers on encore barrels then the contender?
Found a encore with a 454 barrel. Had a 45 colt contender at one time. The 45colt barrel did not group very well.

Just call up Fred at Bullberry and have him do it.  Great reputation for quality.

they would have too..the Contenders were usually a .45/.410 chambering which made it a "sloppy" loose chamber..the .454 operates at such high pressure,a tight chamber is almost a must.

Was the 45 Colt a 45/410 chamber? I had one of those and the best it could do was 2.5" at 25 yards. I sold it and got a 45 Colt only chambered 10" barrel and it would group 1" or less with the right loads.

I had a 12" factory 454 barrel for my Encore and it was very accurate.  I was shooting my standard load of 32.5gr 296 behind an LBT 300gr LFN.  Since I already have my FA83 I ended up trading it away.  Kinda miss it though because it was so darned accurate.
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.
