I took my Bog Boy to the range today. It worked well except for an occasional failure of the next round in the magazine to slide out and into the shell lifter.  All I had to do to clear the problem is pop out the empty case with my finger, put the bolt back into battery, and then cycle the action a second time. I put 50 rounds through it, and it did this 1-2 times per magazine full.

I am hoping this is a break in thing.

I cleaned it well, removing all the factory grease and what-have-you and lubed it up with Ballistol. I haven't tried running ammo through it yet but it seems to work more smoothly having been cleaned of factory grease.

I get an occasional FTF with my .357 Big Boy. It seems to me to be a factor of not working the action briskly enough. I usually shoot from a bench and work somewhat deliberately. It usually just takes a "double clutch" with the lever to get it to go.

I did sense that maybe that was the case.

I was shooting off a bench at first and had it happen more often that way then when I stood up and cycled it rapidly.

I am hoping that the cleaning out of the factory grease makes a difference as well. I'll give it another try next weekend.

Well, I have a couple hundred rounds thru it now, and the feeding issue remains. The rounds are hanging up as they start to slide out of the magazine tube. I believe they are getting hung up on the left side lip of the shell carrier.

It is going back to Henry for repair.

Had same issue with mine dissasembled(extremely simple action) cleaned removed any burrs has worked fine ever since. The action does require "brisk work". I am sure henry will fix. The only problem with the big boy is you can sure burn some ammo. ;)

tpic402...

How does one dissasemble it? No one seems to know.

I assume you mean further apart than removing the lever and the bolt. I asked Henry people for said info and they would not give it out.

I don't want springs flying all over the place if I take it apart in the wrong order.

It came back tonight... two weeks round trip.

repair ticket says "Polished and ramped barrel. Replaced carrier. Adjusted action."

I think the left lip of the carrier looks thinner than the one that was in there originally.

I won't get a chance to actually shoot it for 10 days or so, but I ran some dummy round through it and it seems fixed.

More news when it happens.

Henry is great to deal with. I never had any issues with my three big boys (357 Mag, 44 Mag & 45 Colt). One issue with all handgun cartridges that are not bottled necked in either lever guns or bolts is that require brisk action of the lever or bolt. My Winchester 44 Mag and Rossi 45 Colt are particularly sensitive to this.

I got some range time with it a couple weekends ago.

Works great now, not picky about how hard or soft you work the lever.

I put about 100 rounds of BP loaded 45 Colt thru it... no feed issues at all.
