Luger DWM rework- machine gun unit stamping
« on: April 06, 2012, 07:12:16 AM »
Dear Guys,
Was at a gunshow a week ago, and saw a nice looking 1914 Luger, reworked by DWM after WWI.  I guess it was issued to a police unit between wars.  What was interesting was that the piece was stamped, in German, as issued to a machine gun unit, with its unit number.  I know very little about Lugers, but this struck me as unique.  And frankly, I don't know if this was a unit during WWI or WWII.
Is this rare and unique?  Or typical and ho-hum?  Or a classic fraud?
  Thanks for all replies.

Go to the Luger Forum, join and post pictures of all the markings. Those guys are very knowledgeable and with good pictures can provide a lot of information. The Simpson Ltd. web site has lots of Lugers for sale and is helpfull in establishing current dealer prices and insurance values.
I only have one Luger and it does not have the history that yours does. The fellows on the Luger Forum have described similar pistols and in some cases even identified the unit markings. Good luck; there is a lot of fascinating history that comes with these guns.
