Muscadine
« on: December 05, 2011, 07:26:49 AM »
has anyone ever made Muscadine wine? My wifes uncle makes some every year.
Results have been inconsistant . Some years pretty good , others well ..lets just say ..not so good , and leave it at that. (though we never tell him ).

There was winery near Merigold MS that made muscadine wine. they had a hard time getting consistant wines but succeed. One of the family members, a Rushing, now has a website about hortaculture. I will try to find the link.

Don't know if he will get into wine questions.

My wife and I resumed  winemaking this year after a 10 year lull. Only made about 15 gallons and all of it except one batch turned out really good. That one batch seemed to stop fermenting and as a result the alcohol content is rather low and sugar is high. That batch probably won't keep so we are drinking it first. You do what you gotta do!  G66

:)  Howdy! In my part of Texas there is an abundance of wild grapes that grow prolificly in trees, fencelines, etc. One variety is a black looking grape that is highly acidic, but makes good jelly and wine. There is another variety I see now and then down in the woods that is a big brown looking grape. I have heard people call these muscadine and mustang grapes, but I don't know the proper names for them. Always, Gene
