Marlin Camp 9 issues
« on: January 15, 2012, 07:48:20 PM »
I inherited my fathers Camp 9 Carbine.  It had set for years so today I took it apart for a good cleaning.  I found two issues.  First, the chunck of white plastic at the back of the receiver (buffer?) was cracked and fell apart.  Second, there is a spring under the feed ramp that has been snagged somehow and is now stretched out.

Should I send this back to Marlin?  Do they still work on Camp carbines?  Are these things I can replace myself?  Are parts available? Is a local gunsmith likely to be able to handle it?

Thanks all for the help.

I replaced my bolt buffer with one from "blackjack". I also used a wolfe mainspring, with a higher "pound" rating. I'm not sure of the spring you are asking about. A good site for Camp 9 info is www.marlinowners.com, go to the "other marlins" forum. Also, worn out buffers can cause stock splitting, so it might be fortunate that it fell apart before you did more shooting with it. I don't believe Marlin repairs them anymore, expecially since the sell to the new parent company. There is a surprising amount of interest in them, as well as the Camp .45's. Enjoy.

Gun parts corp is selling the buffers on EBay.

When you take the firearm apart, the feed ramp has a lot of movement to it, there appears to be a spring under the feed ramp (where it pivots), that has been partially pulled out some how.

I did some looking and found new buffers and new springs available on the internet.  I could do the buffer, but I am less certain about the spring.

I will check out the marlin owners sight.

The small spring is under the bolt stop pivot, if that's the one you're talking about. Blackjack Buffers has what you're looking for. Check the hammer strut bridge too. Often when the buffer is trashed, the strut bridge breaks away from the side plates.
