PT 1911 Adjustable Rear Sights? Yes, and only $28, awesome!!!!!!
« on: February 24, 2009, 09:00:02 AM »
I have searched the world over for an aftermarket adjustable rear sight for the PT 1911, to no avail.  While I have truly enjoyed the pistol, the sights are proprietary, and nobody makes anything that fits without cutting the slide.

But, all of the new Taurus PT1911s will no longer come with the Heinie rear sights as standard.  As of '09, Taurus switched to Novak adjustable sights.  I called customer service to complain about not having adjustable sights, only to find out that the new Novaks fit the same dovetail as the Heinies (Taurus proprietary dovetail), and are $27 and change, shipped, from Taurus Int in Florida.

Yippeee!!!

Yes, I did, admittedly so.  The good news to me was that, rather than just a replacement of the heinie stacked dots with fixed rear sights, the new novaks (not listed on the novak website) that taurus sells are 1/2 the price, and adjustable.

Skarke,

Would you know if the 1911 has the same dovetail as a taurus 24/7 Ls? I'd like to get an adjustable sight for my 24/7, and so would a whole bunch of other guys.

Don't know.  Call the Taurus guys and ask, (305) 624-1115, and let us all know how they treat you and what they say.  The guy I spoke with was very pleasant.  He promised me 14 business days turn around, and it's been about 5.  If they deliver, super!!!

I'm hoping that Taurus is getting better.  There seems to be some possibility that this is the case.  I sure like my PT1911, it is a tack driver.

Sharke,

Did you receive your adjustable sights?  I called Taurus today, they told me they had no adjustable sights for the PT1911.  Do you have a part # that I can reference when I call them back?

Thanks

I emailed Novak. They have an adjustable rear sight for the PT1911.  Likely won't put an adjustable sight on mine as I rarely shoot it. It needs an adjustable sight to shoot my loads to POA. Might just give the gun to my son and let him worry about it. The price was about $70.

Thank you guys for digging up this old post, painful though the experience ended up being.  I needed a little salt in my wounds after this one ;D ;D ;D :o

Seriously though, when I first started this post, I was very excited after having spoken with a parts lady who told me that Taurus does indeed stock an adjustable rear sight for the PT1911.

I should have known better.  What they sent me was windage adustable (even though I clearly stated that I was looking for an elevation adjustable sight).  Then Taurus and I talked again, and they sent me another sight.  This one was for their illuminated rear sight, also not elevation adjustable, and also missing the illuminating inserts  ??? .

Then I called again, all three times I was very nice.  After the last conversation, the parts rep basically told me that I was an idiot, and I should have known that they didn't make an elevation adjustable sight (the same lady that said that they did make one).

Well, I'm no idiot, so I generally don't buy Taurus products anymore.

That said, my PT 1911 is a great weapon.  It is accurate, and definitely worth the money, though it is no Springfield Trophy Match (I have other posts comparing the two guns).
