Undiscovered country
« on: February 04, 2012, 08:47:37 AM »
Well, the rifle may never be made, but I can make ammo. I am trying to get posting pictures down with the wifes assistance. She is like "idiot" you dont know what you are looking for!!! With me and computers it is like me saying to a newbie " no , dont look down that barrel !!!!!

OK looks like it worked. One pass, voila! Rimmed 300AAC Blk. Dummy load with 123 gr 310 dia FMJ. Same exact brass length and OAL as a 32/20. All things old are new again. Even the Bible says there is nothing new under the sun......... good lookin little bugger though.

Like you. I want a 300blk, and I want mine rimmed!!  (32/20 AI?)

If I can find a 38 or 357 reamer I will cut it down and smooth out the cutter so all it does is cut a rim.

Should be a hand job.

No it is a FMJ, designed for 7.62X 39. I can shoot them in my 32/20, or my 30/30. They have a short bearing surface and they jack pressures somewhat in 308 bores, but are not a problem. You could never use one in a tube magazine 30/30, but in handi's they work ok for me. I was just trying it to see how it worked and looked. I would get 147 gr FMJ for subsonic loads in a 300 AAC, they are 308 dia.

If that is the pulled surplus, invert it and crimp in the groove.

twoshooter,

Very cool.  What is your parent brass?  I've got a bunch of those Hornady bullets, they're good'uns.

Just plain nickle plated PMC 357 mag brass, run into the AAC sizer die 1 time.  It would be sooo easy to make, not even trim.

Guess i haven't kept up on the new round but the .30-38Spl/357Mag and even Max have been around for awhile. The first step for me in forming 256 Win is to run 357 into a 7.62X25 sizing die - instant 30-357 and a dandy looking little round. Give it a neck length suitable for cast bullets. I've often thought it would be the perfect replacement for .32-20. I like everything about .32-20 except the brass though Starline isn't bad. I just like having a bucket or 3 of extra brass around and having a basic case like 357, .30-30, .444 and .30-06 just make life easier IMO. I have a couple stub victims ready, just no time to put into them lately.

I can't say that a Rimmed 300aac is my cup of tea... What is my cup of tea is that you have the skills to do that lol.  Well done.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

I think that would be exactly my cup of tea, load with heavy bullets for subsonic, cut barrel to 17", and add reflex type suppressor make it quiet and keep the length down. I think it would be a hog/coyote/varmit killing wunderkind without annoying the neighbors or spooking everything in the countryside.

Didn't the specs for the Handi in .330 BO have the barrel already at 16"?   I've made some cast lead subsonic .30-30 loads that are very impressive...

Right now I'm wondering if I need another .30-30 enough to by one more Handi rifle....

Neat looking cartridge. I am wondering why you chose the 310 bullet instead of a 308 diameter? With either one it should be a dandy!

I have some from a 7,62X39, and I was creating a dummy round so I did not use the PSP's that I load in my 30/30. No particular reason (Forest Gump quote ::) )

140 gr BTFMJ pulls from  Midway (inverted) in a 300 BLK rimmed (.357 brass)

...does Ruger still make a .30 carbine revolver?

Certainly do.  I just wish I could catch one in stock when I have money!  lol  I tested my .30 M-1 Carbine reloads in my buddy's blackhawk which is a circa 1976 and put 2 cylinders inside 4" at 40 yards with his irons.  He was quite shocked as I guess he normally can barely keep em on the plate with factory loads.  Was a fun experience.  They are typically in stock for very short runs as I think Ruger makes about 300 a year total.  Last time they came into stock, I saw the notice at 9am and by 11:30 am on my lunch break they were gone!   :o

Best reason for an early lunch! I also think the 30 carbine was a neat cartridge in the blackhawks. Buckeye sporting goods made a run of 32/20 Blackhawk revolvers in a 5 1/2 , I guess in the late 80's when I was always totally broke, like the 25/20 Marlins ::) . I did manage a contender barrel though. I just saw above that the specs might be a 16" barrel on the AAC, now that would be great!
