10MM Auto buffalo gun!

  I just recently got a report from Double Tap Ammo company who is using my 200 gr WFN gas check bullet in their custom loaded 10MM ammo.  The owner of DT told me that two of his customers each shot bison with it, and that it broke the shoulder and still penetrated well enough to take the bison down quickly!

  I've never shot a 10MM but set up a friend with my 180 gr WFN some time ago.  We didn't chronograph the load, but just loaded it to a max jacketed load from the manual. The flat trajectory and superb accuracy was amazing for an auto, and I thought at the time that it would make an excellent deer slayer for ranges to well beyond 100 yards.  The above report says I was more than right.  However, if my memory serves me right, the DT 200 gr is moving out as fast as my friends 180 grain stated manual speed.

  Contact DT if interested in some of his ammo.  Contact LBT if interested in the meanest bullets you can get for a 10MM, including the 40 S&W.  I have not heard of one failure to feed from the WFN in any 10MM auto of any breed or chambering.

I have some 220gr hard cast that I've been shooting at 950fps out of my glock 10mm with Lone wolf barrel.  My buddy shot these same bullets at 1150 but it was a pretty hot load.  Hot enough you didn't bother keeping the brass.  I like the way the heavy cast penetrate in the 10mm.  Its what I carry for a personaly defense round in bear country, which is everywhere around me!

I have tested the DT 200 grain hard cast load in my Glock 29 10mm. No problem to feed and they will penetrate 7 inches of spruce wood with no problem. They make a bigger exit hole than the DT 200 grain FMJ. Both are loaded at 1200+. I have also tested the same hard cast bullet loaded by DT in my Glock 22 40 S&W. Again they feed just fine. They are running the 200 grain cast in the 40 at over 1000.

  Answer to 'thebear'.  Be sure you have a good meplat on your hardcast, because speed doesn't do it if the bullet doesn't have enough meplat to get displacement velocity up into the optimum killing range.  The WFN bullets being used by DT have a .310 wide meplat, which is what makes them deadly when sailing along at 1200 fps.  If your bullet has a smaller meplat and you don't want to spring for a new mold, it might be wise to purchase a pocket full of DT ammo for carry, and use your slimmer bullets for practice etc.  I'd sure like to know you are still able to read this forum, should you really have to use your bear gun!

These have a pretty decent meplat,  maybe not quite as much as your 200gr WFN but close, just a tad longer.  I got these from a friend of mine, I dont do any casting myself.   Once I shoot all these up I'll have to try out your 200gr bullet.  I normaly shoot more jacket ammo than HC though.

The D-T  200 grain ammo prints clover leafs at 25 yards from my Delta.  1300 fps is stated velocity from D-T for this load.  The 1911 is so easy to pack, my Model 29s are turning into safe queens.  Yes, I can load the M29 way past what the Delta can deliver, but then it becomes a discussion of recovery time from recoil and the number of aimed shots down range in the same time period.  The 1911 comes out ahead in that race, while the 29 wins in the bullet diameter and raw horsepower race.  In Alaska I always leaned toward the 29; here in the lower 48 I lean toward the Delta.

  Re: The comment about another bullet having just a tad smaller meplat. -  A tad smaller is a whole lot less kill power.  Reducing it as little as 1/32 inch will dramatically degrade the killing punch.
