scope/rings
« on: February 06, 2012, 05:30:12 AM »
Pardon if this has been asked to death, but I used the search function and it still did not fully answer my question.  I have a Handi-II in 30-30/20 gauge nickle with the weaver 82 base.  I am looking for what scope/ring combo some of you have used.  I really would prefer not to cut more slots on the base but none of my scopes fit.  The bodies are not long enough for the rings to reach the slots.

Try some offset rings.  I've used Millet ones that I got from Midway.  I think Weaver makes some that are similar also.

I've never had a Weaver 82 work without cutting slots.  I've found the simplest, cheapest way to go is to just change it out for the factory base.  See the FAQs.

Or the Leupold rail if you don't need a hammer extension since it doesn't come with one, costs the same as a Weaver #82, about $8. Extra slots are easy to cut in an aluminum rail, I used my table saw w/carbide blade before I got the mill, quick and easy, neater than using a file and/or hack saw which also works.  ;)

What rings to use are gonna be decided when you get the base and scope figured out. As long as you choose a handi friendly scope, lo or med rings will suffice.

As for cutting slots I like to do this with a steel tool and the 1/8" burr. Lay it sideways and it down into the base as deep as necessary.

Check in the FAQ's as all this and so much more is in there!!

I agree with the others, either order a new base with your rings and scope, or cut a slot in it.

As for rings and scope, I prefer the Burris Zee rings and a Nikon, Redfield, Leupold 2-7x32 scope on a caliber that you mentioned. For the flatter shooting cartridges I prefer the 3-9x40, which also works on the Medium Zee rings.

Ironsighter base has more meat in the slots than the factory base if your using a heavy kicker.  More slots too, I think.
