Wesson & Harrington 45-70
« on: February 07, 2012, 11:46:18 AM »
I recently purchased a couple of Wesson & Harrington 45-70s with 32" barrels. I am thinking of having the barrels cut down to 26" to make them more carry friendly. Also thinking of punching one out to 45-120.

What is your opinion about cutting them, and do you think it will effect accuracy?

Done right with a good crown won't affect accuracy a bit, may improve some because shorter barrels are stiffer and affected less by harmonics, although existing loads may not be as accurate or shoot to the same POI, many have cut them to 26-27" and been happy. Lots of discussions on the 45-120, try the advanced search selecting just this forum from the list.  ;)
