« on: February 08, 2012, 04:37:05 AM »
Can you take a 45 colt handi rifle barrel and have it rechambered to 454 casull ? and if so would the 454 be safe in the handi rifle and if so who could to the rechamber?

I have one I did a couple years ago! Tim has a 460 he did before me!

I like it very much and I do not load it to anywhere near it's potential.  I was simply worried about stiff loads finding there way into my expensive SAA's...

Accuracy is very good. I have shot a couple head of game with it since and have. It received a single complaint. ::)

my avatar pic is my 1960 Rambler I bought in 1972 for $175..6 banger 3-on-the-tree...drove it for 5 yrs  22mpg.. was "hot-rodding" (LOL) one night...tore out 1st/reverse gear. Drove it that way for 2 yrs(with no reverse and only 2nd and high)  Had to really plan ahead when parking.

What they said Tanoose, there are over 50 happy members here that have reamed their 45 Colt BC Carbine barrel with the GBO 454 Casull reamer, see the reamer sticky.  ;)

Very simple to do, just take your time and use plenty of cutting oil.

I recently bought a BC  carbine barrel reamed to 454 from Jason F to build my Mannlicher stocked carbine. I would encourage you to do it so that you can then help me as I develop the 454MBM (Mini Bush Master) round that I am trying to concoct (even though Tim has already done so for the 45LC...). 454 - or 460 for that matter - seem like ideal carbine rounds while the abiillity to stilll shoot 45 Colt cowboy rounds is less punishing to shoulder and wallet. ;D

Ream it to 460 s&w.  Mine is still accurate with 45 colts in the 460 chamber.  You can shoot 45 ACP, 45 WinMag (w/Orings for headspace), 45 Cowboy, 45 Schofield, 45 Colt, 454 Casull, and 460 S&W.  Haven't tried 45 GAP but it should work if the rim is close to 45 ACP size.  I have shot up to 525 gr out of the 460.  With plastic stock and no weight in the butt, it will probably get your attention within a few shots with full bore loads.  With the 45 Cowboy (rimmed 45ACP) it is quiet and kickless.  Mine is fond of 480 gr Lyman in 45 Colt cases with an undisclosed charge of Lil Gun (no published data).

Fifty chambers reamed?  I hoped that reamer would get a good workout when I donated it, I am really glad it is working for everybody.  It was used when I got it and I did 3 myself.
