I  carry mine in either a ziplock or just dump some in my front pocket.

MC,
I've not yet washed my ammo. I have washed my turkey calling diaphrams a few times. I can tell ya from experience that Tide or whatever fabric softner my wife buys don't taste that well...

And when I was in school and would head to the house in NC for breaks my step mother, was a clean freak and would wash all of our hunting clothes if we had any mud on them (since we hunted in the swamp that was often) and I can nottell you how many wallets, pocket knives, ammo, hunting license, and how much money that woman as washed.

When carrying my tube fed Marlin 39a, I just carried some in a box, in a vest pocket.

However in the last 2 weeks, I bought a little H&R sportster single shot.  This is what I fabricated.

I just took a centerfire holder off one of my rifles, and had it stitched down to hold .22 rimfires.  If I stuff it clear full, it will hold 32 rounds.

Years ago when I first ran across the Uncle Mikes belt pouch I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then I wanted something more sturdy so I had a local leather crafter build several of these for me.

Dog  "had it stitched" means you told the wife what to do, right. Wasn't it hard to get a sleeve like that on a sewing machine?

Actually I took it to a buddy that runs a leather and shoe repair shop.  He had the equipment to stitch it without cutting the main under stitching.  Cost me a whoppin $8. ;D

It is hard to beat home made. Over the years my wife has sewed up a lot of concotions for me from ARMY suplus stores. The old shirts with the sleeves cut out and the extra fabric used for pocket material.
You can make--well, she can, I can't make nuttin--the pockets any sized you want and add velcrow to keep them closed.
She made me a pouch for golf gloves in 1976 that I still use for gloves.
Those shirts make for excellent vests and pockets any way you want them and any place on the vest  you want them. I had two she made for me to wade fish in and they hold more lures than any store bought vest I have seen.
I vote for old shirts made into vests.
Blessings

In my ammo safe I keep my 22 shells in a 50 cal. ammo can. I dump the ammo in loose and when I go to the range I've got an old Uncle Mike's belt pouch w/zipper that will hold about 500 loose rounds. When the pouch runs low I get out the ammo can and dig out the shells by the handfull until the pouch is full again. Works for me.

I carry mostly, loose in my pocket. If I am going out for a long while I put them in a leather pouch with a draw string, My grands got them at Cherokee NC, played with them a few times and I adopted them (pouches) for ammo. Reminds me of Jack Elam in one of the Duke's Movies, carried his shotgun shells in a pouch and rope around his neck.LOL  It works pretty good.
I have used plastic flat boxes with cloth liners glued in to buffer the noise, used it with my muzzle loading stuff in my possibles bag also.

I use my ditty bag for shoe shine stuff. That thing is tough, got it in 1964, still has no holes.LOL USN

I do a lot of hunting with my Encore .22 Pro Hunter and have found that the Tuff Product Quick Strips work pretty well for holding rounds securely in a pocket and keep them from rattling around.   Looks like they make a holster for the strips as well, but I haven't tried that...

well, the .22lr just ride in a pocket.  If I plan to shoot alot a slide top box in a hip pocket, if I am just wanting some extras a few loose in a pocket.  Now my .22 Magnum has been problematic since the box in a pocket requires a large pocket that is not always available.  7 shot clips, one in the gun and 2 spares in a pocket are a plus but leave the clips open to damage, dirt, etc.  sooo

I'm getting a couple of these:
http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-22-Pellet-Pouch/733561.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3DAMMO%2BPOUCH%26x%3D21%26y%3D7%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=AMMO+POUCH&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products

one will be modified as needed to hold the clips, and the other will hold loose shells

Those old Uncle Mike's pouches remind me of belt pouches some folks I work with use to have a pair of rubber gloves handy. If you cant find the Uncle Mike's pouches give these a look:

Also check the right hand column. They have quite a few styles of these pouches.

Tupperware! You can find all sizes and shapes. I have some that are larger and some smaller that I use depending on the need. The smaller ones I use to take hunting when only taking 50 or so rounds with me. I line them with the rubber stuff you put in the bottom of tool boxes and there is no sound at all.

I am axed at some of your inginuity!!!

I am also suprised this went two pages and counting!! LOL

The "CCI" boxes work great as is. At two of the ranges I shoot at the collect them for shooters to reuse! Just last night at a match I saw a box of them near one of the exits with a sign asking for them!

I save those CCI boxes for other stuff too. They are great for odds and ends. I have one in my range box that contains small allen wrenches for sight adjustment and extra screws and lock tite

organized, and quiet, how quietly can it be opened??  I mean if you are hunting with a single shot and need to reload with a squirrel 15 or 20 feet away can you get away with it? or are you heard opening the box??

Kieth,

I mentioned that one last page. I like it allot for extra ammo in the pack or with the single shot. I don't find it so useful with a repeater. But with the single shot I do like it allot.

It's not real easy to oPen. But it opens and closes positively.

I have used them for my revolvers for years. Just recipe fly bought four in RF for the 17m2/17 HMR /22and 22Mag

When hunting with the 10-22 sometimes I just load the mag with 10 and go.  If it's going to be a long day I will dump a few in a shirt pocket.  I know, you gotta hold your shirt to pick up a tree rat.

For hunting theMTM ammo wallets work great, combined with a spare mag for the CZ. The squirrels better beware.
