Charges force Mirkarimi to turn over firearms  By: Joshua Sabatini | 01/24/12 11:07 PM
SF Examiner Staff Writer     Court records show Mirkarimi surrendered three handguns: A Sig Sauer P229, a Beretta 92G, and a Smith & Wesson Model 19 .357-caliber magnum revolver.  Court records show Mirkarimi surrendered three handguns: A Sig Sauer P229, a Beretta 92G, and a Smith & Wesson Model 19 .357-caliber magnum revolver.   Even though he’s now sheriff, it may surprise some that Ross Mirkarimi owns several guns.

As a longtime member of the progressive bloc on the Board of Supervisors, Mirkarimi was a vocal advocate of gun control.

But after being arrested on three misdemeanor charges including domestic violence battery, Mirkarimi was forced to turn over all his guns to authorities. Court records show Mirkarimi surrendered three handguns: A Sig Sauer P229, a Beretta 92G, and a Smith & Wesson Model 19 .357-caliber magnum revolver.

As a supervisor, Mirkarimi angered gun advocates last year by authoring legislation intended to strengthen San Francisco’s gun control laws and protect them from a court challenge by the National Rifle Association and others.

At the time, Mirkarimi said, “There is ample evidence these laws are needed now more than ever, and they will save countless lives every year.” The laws he intended to strengthen included a 2007 city ordinance requiring that handguns in a residence be locked in a container or disabled with a trigger lock.

If Mirkarimi were convicted on the domestic violence charge, he would not be able to carry a gun as sheriff.

Poetic justice.
"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."

Couldnt have happened to a better guy!  Good to see him reap a harvest of the seeds he sowed.  The city of San Francisco will be much safe now I am sure.

If guns were so "evil", and SF so safe, I wounder why he thought he needed them. ;D

+1 on that.  Its a perfect example of gun control higher ups saying, "Do as I say, not as I do."

Right up there when it was discovered that PETA was killing animals and dumping them in local dumpsters.
It's all a hot mess...........
