Maximum and Super Mag hunters?
« on: February 05, 2012, 01:21:53 AM »
Looking for advice on using my Handi's in .357 maxi and .445 super mag for hogs. I posted in the Hog Hunting section, but no responses. Thought I would ask here.
If you have hunted hogs with these, what bullet did you use? Thanks

I haven't hunted hogs with my 357max yet, but I think I would use the speer 180gr sp.  I think it's made for a higher velocity than the max, so it should hold together well.  Punch through some heavy bone.

I might have. I heard there is a farmer upset with a mess of them tearing up his property. Waiting on a phone # ;)

Thanks Revbc, I just happen to have some of them already loaded ;)

I use them in a 35 rem. with good luck on deer, talked to speer tech's. about them and they told me that they have a thicker jacket for the higher velocity so if your gun likes them you might want to keep the velocity up and good luck on the hogs.

No hogs here to hunt, so I've never had the opportunity, but....Digger has used the 300gr XTP 265gr Hornady FP on hogs in his Supermags.  ;)

Oink Oink Oink, here piggy piggy piggy. ;D  I've got some lead for you! ::)

Lonny,
Feed 'em whatever you got. Those 180gr XTPs should work well too.

Thanks, Dinny

I agree, most any NON HP heavy for caliber bullet will work just fine.

I like the XTP's either 158 FP or 180HP, the Speer 170 Gold Dot SP and the Hornady 180 SSP... A good cast 180 or 200 would likely work well too.

I haven't shot any hogs, but lots of deer with these bullets. So far the 45Colt, 7x30 Waters, 12Ga and a 30-06 is what I have used on hogs. I would not hesitate for a second to use a maxi on the biggest of them!
