45-70 with trailboss
« on: February 06, 2012, 03:36:48 PM »
Just finished loading up 10 test rounds for my 45-70 with 330 gr cast hp over 16.5 gr of trailboss,  All I've read seems to be a good powder for cast bullets and good acuracy for 45-70.  If my chart it corect should be about 1200 fps. I've tried this powder before and seemed to shoot well but this new lyman bullet mold I purchased just for the purpose of shooting trailboss.  Actually gives me a little rush thinking about something new to play with. Off to the range tomarrow afternoon.

Your gona like trail boss with the 45/70.

I load 14.5 gr with a 405 gr slug, good for 100 yards and very light recoil.

have fun  ;D

Shot some 45-70 Trailboss rounds last weekend. We used Laser Cast 405s with great accuracy and minimal recoil. These were shot in a Ruger #1 and an Encore. I can't wait to try my Pedersoli rolling block with these loads. I have arthritis in the shoulder and the reduced recoil of these loads will allow me to keep shooting a bit longer.

I use it in my 45-70 with a 250 grain jacket soft point and out of my number 1 they shoot great, I also use it in a contender 444 marlin rechamber 44mag super 14 pistol barrel with 13 grns and a 240 grn xp and it does a great job, I like it for the light recoil and low muzzle blast.
