Oldie but Goodie Rem. 700
« on: February 22, 2012, 12:38:08 PM »
Just picked up a new to me Remington 700 BDL Carbine in 222 Rem. The gun has a 20" tube and someone replaced the butt pad, grip cap, and forend tip with some Leopard wood and it looks very nice. It is my undertsanding remington did a limited run of these "carbines" with the 20" barrel in the 60's. I mounted an older Weaver 2.5 x 7 on it and just got done running a few boxes of the inexspensive privi partisan 50gr soft point stuff from Midway and after getting it zeroed was able to shoot a couple of 5 shot grouips of between 1 and 1.25". I can't wait to work up some handloads for it and see what she can do. I plan on using gthe gun for my carrying around predator calling rifle and to thin out the local crow population. I took a few quick pictures to show the leopard wood trim.

Nice rifle!  I wouldn't exactly call it a limited run although the 20 inch barrel lasted but 2 years.  With the exception of the magnums all offered calibers had the short barrel beginning in 62 until sometime in 64 when 22 in barrels became standard and is my preference for most calibers.  My 6mm with the short barrel is kind of loud!

Nice find.

These are a great rifle. Mine is a 700 BDL Varmint in 22-250. I believe mine is 1965. S/N 222XXX. The action is so slick & a very nice trigger pull ( very light ). Mine has a 10x Lyman Super Target Spot w/xtra fine crosshairs. This is a true tack driver.

If you go to reloading the 222 it should also be a super accurate varmint rifle. Try some Hornady 50 SX or Sierra 50 Blitz these are super varmint & crow getters. It's all I shoot in my .222's.

Good Luck and enjoy your great find.

Thats a beauty I love the weird things people did to guns in the 50's and 60's.
