Well, I believe it's now discontinued.  Davidsons and Bud's gunshops have removed the item numbers and H&R doesn't list it as an available caliber.  They were going about $250 or thereabouts not too long ago.  The Accessory barrel program still shows it available, but they may be using up spares.  If it's a caliber you really want, might want to grab now and you can always sell it off or sell the barrel here in the classifieds and get a different caliber.  Once they are discontinued it'll get harder and harder to find.  I still want a 7x57 8(...

Looks like the 280 Rem is another casualty of 2012 cuts, it's not in the 2012 catalog.  :'(

Hummmmmmm,  :-\   Maybe I need to rethink using my extra .280 barrel as the base for my 50-140...  ???     Looking at the prices some people want for discontinued calibers mayhaps I could make me some money!   ;D

Both of my .280 Handis are tack drivers, as are most if not all of the others I have seen posted about on this site. With the great choice in 7mm bullets for a reloader it is really THE do-all rifle. I really like my .30's and .35's but the .280 can do all they do. It is really a great caliber and in my opinion a better choice than the .270, especially if you happen to have other 7mm's as I do (7x57 and 7mm-08)....<><.... :)

I bought a 280 just for the receiver.  It's now my #1 go to when I'm hunting anywhere over 100 yds.  A tack driver without any fussing, and with every load I've worked up.

I should probably buy another for a spare....just in case.

Even if you have a 270...you might need a back up! ;D

Hello,

I currently have a NEF .280 Rem that has a regular laminated stock and 26" barrell that I bought at an auction a few years back. It was near the end of a high volume gun sale and it seems that nobody wanted such a horribly ugly push button gun, or, most folks had spent all their money. the opening bid was $125 and I bid $135 and wound up going home with it. (along with 4 more non handis) After a closer inspection, I found that the scope was a Simmons Aetec, and the rifle was in pristine condition, appearing to have been fired only a very few times. I bought a box of factory rounds and immediately began shooting groups around one inch without doing a thing to it. I picked up some 7MM Express (.280 Rem) dies at a gun show for $20 and 100 140gr. 7MM Ballistic Tips. After reloading a medium power load with Varget powder, I was quite satisfied with the ease in which this rifle will shoot a MOA group. A few 300 yard shots confirmed that this is indeed a legitimate long range shooter that I would not hesitate to use with no more work done. I have since placed it into semi retirement since I have so many other rifles in use right now. Now, hearing about the .280 being dropped from production, I guess I will just hang on to it a bit longer. I have never taken any game with it, so I may trade it off one day, but, with the accuracy and ease of loading, I may keep it in the family. Have a great day.
