new used .243
« on: February 19, 2012, 09:45:43 AM »
I made an offer on a"used" .243 yesterrday.  To my surprise, the owner/gunshop said he would take my lowball offer isince, it "was me".

I put a K Mart Northwest 3-0 on it ($`0, wqith rings and cheap binocs).  It has a better trigger than my other .243, and seems to shoot well.

I am not sure it had anything other than abuse in a closet, some small rust spots on the barrel, a scuffed rail, and a couple dings on the wood.  This is a U.  Where did the letter/year post go, I can't find it.

I was going to see about reboring to a larger caliber, but now don't know.  I have 2 grandsons, both too young to hunt, but this gives me 2 nearly identical guns to pass along, along with some other earmarked things.  I could bet them both rebarreled in something like .308 or 3-06 and give them both antelope and elk guns.  Hopefully in 8 or 10 years I will still be able to take them, as I will be in my 70's.  The other grandpa is also my hnting pard, and is already pushing 70, so who knows.

BTW, this whole page just went th 1/4 size,  what happened?
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

Congrats, build year info is in the FAQs where it's always been for the last 10yrs or so.  ;)
