I've used Barnes all copper bullets in one form or another in all my 30 caliber rifles. I prefer the lighter weight bullets. I have used the 165 grain XLC in my 30-06. Worked fine. Contrary to popular belief, the heavier bullets work really well. I have seen penetration tests that show this. The best explanation for the good performance is that velocity is held under the threshold where the four front petals sometimes shed during penetration. While this often happens at faster speeds, I will say also that when it does, it is usually at the point that other bullets stop penetrating anyway so it is not a concern to me when it does (usually with lighter faster bullets). Besides, the remaining shank creates a nice wound channel itself.
