New guy stumbles in with a question
« on: February 21, 2012, 08:00:19 AM »
 First off hello,
I find myself in the market for a ultra slug hunter. After discovering the possibility of having H+R add more barrels I thought it might be beneficial to start off with a rifle and add the USH barrel. We can all use another one right? If I read things correctly, they won't add a rifle barrel to an original shotgun receiver but will add a shotgun barrel to an original rifle receiver. I have read that H+R has undergone some ownership changes and wanted to know if quality is still acceptable and if anyone has taken advantage of the additional barrel program and how that went. Thanks for your time!

Welcome 34fun,

I'm not really up on H&R shotguns, but I believe the USH is on a 10 ga. frame which rifle barrels will not fit, and the slug barrel won't fit a rifle frame.   If I'm wrong, someone will come and correct me........make me stand in the corner with a dunce cap.  As far as quality is concerned, most of us feel it's at an all time high.  Brian56 is one of the fine H&R gunsmiths and a member here.  He makes sure everything gets done properly.  If there is ever a problem.  Brian jumps in to get it corrected......like right now.  Many of  us have happily used the accessory barrel program.  Turnaround time is down to about 2 - 3 weeks, including transit time, from 6 - 10.  Five or six of my Handis were born in the barrel program.  All of mine are complete rifles today.  Read the FAQs above.  It'll tell you all you need to know, and then  some.  You can buy barrels in the classifieds here, and fit them yourself.

Good luck,

Pete

Welcome 34fun! What Pete said pertains to the 12ga USH, the 20ga USH barrel can be fitted to SB1 or SB2 rifle frames. As he stated, the 12ga USH requires an SB2 shotgun frame which is made for the bigger 10ga shotgun and 12ga USH barrels, 20ga USH barrels are actually 12ga blanks, 12ga USH barrels are 10ga blanks which have a bigger chamber swell, 1.2" compared to 1.1" for all other barrels.

First welcome. I drove to the factory in Ilion and dropped of my receiver then drove back and picked it up today. I had four barrels added to the frame very pleased with all work .Only complaint was the sling studs were not lined up.
