Lately I've been trying to reduce rather than expand the number of forums and have been doing quite a bit of combining of them. A fellow southern from MS asked about a forum for his state.

We now have a forum for Alabama and for Georgia and neither is really getting enough posts to properly justify them. What I am considering is these two forums and combining them into one and adding Mississippi so that it is a three state forum. There already are some multiple states in this section.

That might be a viable alternative to his request. I know we have a lot of the Bama guys posting to the GA forum and some of the GA guys posting on our Bama forum.

Does that sound like a plan that might be of interest to ya? All us good ol southern boys in MS, AL and GA are kinda cut from the same cloth anyway what with us being sons of the Confederacy and victims of the war of northern agression and all.

I'd like your comments on this before I proceed.

Why not just make one forum for each area Southeast. Northeast, southwest and Northwest. The states in those areas are all about the same climate and resources.

Sounds fine to me GB.  I have as many friends in Ala. as in Ga., and know quite a few in Ms. and La. as well.  Any sort of combo would be ok, for as you point out, we ain't burning up the internet with posts..

Sounds okay to me cuz.  Ga and Ala are two peas in a pod, maybe add FL since they lease a lot of GA land.
 
You could combine forums into regions as Briarpatch suggests but then you may start loosing individual state's identity.
 
So I guess it all depends on how far down you want to trim the number of forums.  And I haven't noticed any detrimental effect from the combining you have already done.

I can certainly see benefits to regional forums vs. specific state forums. State laws, customs, etc., can be visited and possibly used in adjoining states. The likelihood of traveling to hunt in an adjoining state are higher as well.


Finally it is much nicer to visit an active forum rather than calling out into the vast wilderness that the state forums can be. Better to read about the ND pheasant population or Wi. deer issue than nothing about a Mn. DNR idea that has never been posted.


Might I propose grouping Wi., MN.,  North and South Dakota, possibly Mi., the U.P. in particular, into an Upper Midwest Forum?

I'z been borned in Nawth Carlina,  grampa taught me to shoot and hunt thar.....moved to Flawda since then and hunted fer a few y'ars.  Got my first buck - a nice 10 pt - outside of Uniontown, ALA,   But fer the pas' 16 y'ars I be huntin' in Sou' Jawja.   I like the idea of combining the Southern States into one forum.    its all good to me.   Whatever works best fer you GB!

 Sounds like a great idea!
Boundaries for Northwest, Southwest, Southeast, Northeast could be possibly the Mississippi River as boundary between East and West and Mason Dixon Line as boundary between north and south! Where they intersect determines your quadrants.
