This is good news - a terror plot by a Muslim extremist stopped by our heroes in the FBI.

Wait a minute.. reading the article.. it sounds like the plot was the FBI's idea.... and so they foiled their own plot. Whaaaat? read it...

Yup from what I've heard on it so far it was entrapment pure and simple. They would play hell convicting him if I were on the jury. Now if the agents who set him up were on trial and me on the jury I'd likely vote to convict based solely on what I've heard of this so far.

What's bad is that I doubt they would pick you for the jury GB.  I was on a Federal Jury once.  2 men and 10 women.  Talk about stacking the deck.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

Exactly.  It's the new normal in 'investigation'.

enlighten me all .. I just don't see the entrapment. What an I missing?

Too me this is no different than a person wanting to hire a hit man to kill their spouse or another. Just because that hit man the person thinks they are hiring turns out to be an undercover agent does not create entrapment.

El Khalifi thought he was dealing with members of al Qaeda, but they were really undercover agents, officials said.
El Khalifi detonated a test bomb just over a month ago in a quarry in West Virginia and that he "expressed a desire for a larger explosion in his attack" at the Capitol.
He selected February 17 as the day of the operation, according to the affidavit.

El Khalifi traveled to the Capitol on multiple occasions to conduct surveillance, choosing the spot where he would be dropped off to enter the building, the specific time for the attack and the methods to avoid attracting the attention of law enforcement.

El Khalifi , expressed motive, traveled to DC , tested  a like device , wanted a bigger Bomb, and was fully intent on detonating. If all the evidence available was just what was presented in the article, I see motive and intent and no entrapment.

But as we all know not everything is cut and dry. I'm sure there is a lot more information we are not privy too.
He was under surveillance for over a year.

IMHO ,
the guy should have been deported as soon as they found out he was illegal: (problem would have gone away, years worth of $$ saved on surveillance, unless of course they thought he was part of a network cell and they needed to gather intel)

El Khalifi entered the United States in 1999 on a visa, overstayed it and never applied for U.S. citizenship.

That's the way it works. The 1993 bombing of the world trade center was an FBI operation. The patsy that was being framed figured it out and started recording the conversations with the FBI. When the bombs exploded they had to frame someone else, because their patsy had the goods on them.

The underwear bomber's father called the FBI to warn them his son was getting radical. The FBI set him up as a patsy.

They don't just set up Muslim patsies. They like patriots and militias too. Timothy McVeigh was recruited by a black ops “Major”. He was to infiltrate a militia so they could frame them for the OK city bombing. He was the one that got framed. The Hutaree militia were infiltrated by the FBI and setup. The judge saw though it and threw the case out. Now they are going on trial anyway.

Be careful there could be a fed trolling GBO looking for a patriot patsy to setup or frame right now.

There seems to be a pretty general misunderstanding of what entrapment consists of and what’s happening with these would be Jihadists.  In most cases these people are getting on the internet and seeking help to join the jihad, they are looking for Al Qaida and state their intentions up front to wage war.  Some of them express that desire to neighbors, coworkers, and friends etc. who then report them to law enforcement.

The next thing they know their friendly neighborhood Al Qaida representatives (who are actually LE) show up asking if they want to get their jihad on.  The only appropriate answer to the question is “no, you are mistaken; I am a friendly Muslim who has no desire for that”.  If the answer is “sure thing, help me get my jihad on” then they can expect to end up in prison for a very long time.

Entrapment occurs when LE induces someone to commit a crime that they would otherwise have been unlikely to commit.  Entrapment doesn’t occur where a person is ready and willing to break the law and LE provides what appears to be a favorable opportunity for the person to commit it.  These jihadists have all the legal representation they could ever need; there is a reason that entrapment isn’t being used successfully to get them off, because entrapment never occurred.

We could have only wished that Malik Hasan had reached out via the internet for “help” before he killed 13 Americans, then maybe he’d have gotten out of his car at Ft. Hood with a mechanically disabled handgun, and then been tackled by a dozen FBI agents, all before he could have killed anyone.

TM7, maybe those muzzies need to carry dictionaries instead of korans.  they think jihad means holy war against Israel and the great satan. (the U.S.A.)

Hafta go along with Nuke on this one. Sounds like the guy wanted to commit a crime, no matter what. If the FBI hadn't stepped in, he would have found real AlKida and bomb making materials. No different than a guy pulling up to a prostitute on the street. If he asks her if she needs a ride, and she says yes, and for $50 you'll get a real good time, and he says no thanks and pulls away, he commited no crime. But, if he says heck ya, a Monica Lewinski for $50 sounds good, he's going to jail. gypsyman

What if he says "How 'bout we have a good time then I pay you $50 to go away?"
