The grass ain't always greener!!
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:00:25 PM »
As most of you know I left Pa back in November and headed to Florida with a travel trailer I bought before leaving. I spent 7 weeks there with no luck finding any work. I have a friend out in Texas that said he had work. He said come on out. So I sold my travel trailer in FL so I would have the money to make it to TX. It would seem my friend has stretched the truth a bit about the work. The work with him has been spotty at best. I have not worked in a week in a half. I left a $22.00 an hour job in Pa because I hated the cold winters and wanted a fresh start after the break up between my wife and myself. The hardest thing of all is I have not seen my daughter since November. We talk using Oovoo on the computer so we can see one another. My daughter misses me a lot and I miss her more than I can put into words. Just as soon as it warms up a little and I won't freeze to death sleeping in mt truck I'm heading back to Pa. My old boss will take me back and I have been in constant contact with him since I left. I hate to say it but it was a huge mistake leaving. I still am not drinking and have not in over a good year now. I am feeling pretty down right now and don't exactly know what the future holds for me. Like I said the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Well take care. Dale

Look on the bright side. You have been through a very difficult time and have NOT resorted to drinking again. That is a sure sign you are on the right path. Good luck and hang in there.

 We try to decide carefully concerning what will be best for ourselves and (hopefully) for our families. However, how "we think" things should turn out often just doesn't come to pass for whatever reason. That's life, even if it sucks. Forrest Gump was right.

Well, give it some time.
I can appreciate the feelings and the heartaches. If you have come this far it is because you have matured a great deal and have delt with those decisions in an honest and adult way.
There is a light ahead--just take your time--find work that will keep you fed and housed--look at the opportunities and for the opportunities.
I really do have a lot of faith in you and for you. You will do good---I know it.
Blessings

We all make mistakes. It's part of life. But it sounds like you realize what you thought was best at the time really wasn't. You could ask anyone if they have ever done anything they regret, I'll bet 99.9% would say "YES". Sometimes you have to try things yourself, not just take someones work for it, to learn what is most important in your life. It sounds like you have learned a lot from your choices and I hope you and your daughter get reunited soon. She is the most important thing in your life,and it appears that you already know that. Good luck and God Bless.      AR50shooter

Our mistakes teach us a lot. You know what matters most to you now. It will make it easier getting through the hard down times just knowing what is getting you down. The things that you don't see comeing are your worst enemy. When you find you are down stop and figure out what got you. If you already know, sometimes we just have to cry some and take a break and wait until the next day. One day can make a lot of difference.

When you find that you think you can't make another day on your own think of your daughter and make another day for her. Best of hopes and wishes for you and your daughter. ear

Until you experience it for yourself you don't know for sure and will always wonder, what if. You have this out of your system, exercised some demons if you will, and can move forward. I certainly hope you are not ashamed of your decisions  or the direction they took you. You have learned a valuable thing through all of this, what YOU find truly valuable.

Good luck going forward Dale.

Dale, what part of Texas are you in?  There is work in Texas, one of the highest employment areas of the nation.  While you might not find work as a Carpenter, be a little flexiable, there is work there, don't give up yet, keep looking.

I never thought you would find much in Florida.  I see too many people out of work there when I go down.  People are always walking in looking for employment at my buddies business, and he has no openings.  Re-poed houses everywhere.  Homeless walking around looking for handouts all through Miami.  When I was at Orlando, almost everyone I met working in the service industry were retirees who got tired of sitting at home.  With people like that in the labor force, younger people do not stand a chance of finding work.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

 Dale;
  Glad to see you have not taken a drink in so long, John Barleycorn never solved a problem, but has caused millions of them !
       Since you are on your way back, no need for me to say..i just visited family in the "golden triangle" in Texas (Beaumont, Port Arthur & Orange areas); there IS work there..in the petroleum industry.
    There will be a lot more if Dufus were to allow the pipeline..the end at port Arthur is already built to recieve the pipe.

Yea I'm in Willis Texas. I live in an RV park on Lake Conroe. This lake is huge and covers 22,000 acres. :o  The lake is about 5 or so feet low due to a drought last summer and they drained it so Huston would have water. We will get together and do a lunch or a dinner before I leave the area. PM me your phone number and I will give you a call when I get my phone turned back on. Take care Dale

Major changes brought on by emotion never pan out because you find yourself running away from something.  Major changes brought on by logic and rational thought show you're running to something.  Running away never makes things better.  Alcoholics drink to get away and our OP now knows that doesn't get you anywhere good.  Sounds like it is time for some rational decisions here to start running toward a goal instead of away.  Don't matter where your body is if your mind is somewhere else.

Dale, go home.  You can run from your troubles, but the best thing to do is face them straight on.

I'm sure your daughter will be very happy to see you.

May god bless you and keep you.

  William;
   Sorry, I made a rather quick trip, since I got called back on business and had to cut a day early. I visited my 2 brothers in Bridge City..right there on the Lousiana line (Sabine river)..and the Gulf. One brother a Korean vet, the other a WW2 vet and I understand we are losing the WW2 guys @ 1,000 per day.
  Would have, if I could have..
oooooooooooooooooo
   BTW:  I was shown the structure & surrounding preparations already in place to receive the Keystone pipeline.  Guess common sense so dictated that things be made ready for it.  One could never visualize that any prez would ever turn down thousands upon thousands of jobs in this economy.

It looks like things might be picking up here. My buddy landed 3 jobs between yesterday and today. Looks like we might have a little work for a little while. I just hope the work keeps coming. I have to say things have been pretty bad for a few months now and I have done a lot of praying the last few months. Maybe God will see me through this yet? Well take care guys Dale
