T/C cracked stock
« on: February 29, 2012, 09:44:12 PM »
I have a White Mountian carbine that is cracked behind the tang on both sides. I replaced the tang wood screws with 10-32 screws that anchor the tang to the trigger assembly. I have a later production WM that has the 10-32 screw already for the front tang screw. I find this also on a later model 54 Hawken. I have had several early Hawkens with no cracking.

I may have stopped the cracking, and it is very faint. My question is if T/C will warranty this cracked stock? It seems unlikely that they have piles of these laying around. I will certainly call T/C. I welcome your experience.

I had a Hawken kit stock that cracked in the early 80's and they replaced it with a new production stock inside of 3 weeks.  Like you said, they may not have a pile of these laying around anymore.  They replaced a Black Diamond 209 nipple that broke the first time I fired it (I had to get pissy with them), and they replaced an "accuracy problem" Omega X-7 about 4 years ago, no questions asked.  They've been good to me!  Let us know how you fare...

if you drilled it for that 10-32 machine screw you probably voided the warranty even if they happen to have a stock layin' around. for what it's worth and luck to ya friend, bubba.

Thompson center's customer service isn't what it used to be, since S&W bought it out. Good luck on the warranty issue, but I wouldn't hold your breath. They used to be a great company to deal with and had outstanding service. Too bad.
