Remington 1100 Magnum Ring Flip
« on: February 05, 2012, 09:08:25 AM »
I have an older Remington 1100 that belonged to my grandfather.  My uncle swears my grandfather would flip a ring in the gas system to shoo low brass.   I can not find anything on this.  Have any of you heard this?

That's the Browning Auto 5 NOT the Remington 1100 tho Remington did make the Model 11 on the Browning patent and perhaps that is the gun he had.

Bill is correct.  I have an 1100 3" magnum and there is no ring to flip.  If you install a 2 3/4 barrel on your 3" receiver, you may be able to shoot low brass shells.  The vent holes are sufficient to redirect enough pressure to cycle the receiver.  Additionally your gun will be a little heavier and may absorb more recoil.

Thanks for the input.  I assumed it was probably a bit of misinformation I was receiving.  I probably won't buy a new barrel as I've priced them in the $200 plus range.  I'm considering buying a whole new gun.  I have been looking at the 11-87, mossberg 930, weatherby sa-08, and the stoeger M2000.  I'm leaning real hard towards the weatherby.  I looked at an 11-87 last week and it looked as bad as the budget 870 with a $650 dollar price tag.

I can recommed the Weatherby SA-08.  I bought one for my boy last year and after two seasons with it I'm impressed for the price.  I own quite a few shotguns of several brands, old and new and if I was in the market for a good reliable shotgun for hunting that didn't cost much and didn't need a 3 1/2" chamber I would by another Weatherby hands down.

how is your gas seal ("O" ring) if warn this can cause low brass not to fire? another thing what size barrel? if you give me the length I can give you the correct size for your gas holes you may need to open them up one size drill.
