Savage 1899
« on: February 07, 2004, 05:51:07 PM »
My father-in-law left his old "1899" 30/30 with me to take care of it. I always thought it was a 99 but find out from the savage site it was called a 1899. My father in law was a rancher most of his life in OK and E. OR. this gun has no bluing left on it, or finish on the stock. It has probabled killed more deer and yotes than any of us have seen, plus a fair share of Mt. Lions and bear. What I like about it is the rotary mag so I can load pointed bullets. This is one that stays in the family for a long time to come. Accourding to the savage site it was made in 1924.

Gun Runner,
You are truly fortunate.  According to information I have, in 1918 Savage model designation changed from "Model 1899", to "Model 99".  However, many guns continued to be stamped with 1899 until well into the 1920's.
Enjoy your treasure and just use it.

savageT........Have you hugged a '99 lately?

Of all the things I've lost in my life, I miss my mind the most.
